Does this mean the end for chef?
But they had to know that mocking Scientology would **** Hayes off. Considering how rare Chef's appearances have been in the last couple of seasons, I doubt Parker and Stone consider his contribution integral to the show.

No, just his voice.
There is a place in this world for religion, but there is a time when common sense ends and commerce and cynical exploitation towards religious beliefs begins. It's called Scientology.

Obviously even after 14 years of Scientology, Isaac's beliefs aren't secure enough to handle someone mocking them.
Chef will be missed, but i'd prefer to say goodbye to Chef than have a toned-down South Park.

Yet again it proves the old adage that religion doesn't have a sense of humour.
Just get a voice-a-like or do a Mr.Garrison and have him undergo some sort of weird surgery or experience. In a show like South Park, its not that hard to change a voice FFS.

We got over Cartmans voice changing, im sure ill be able to get over Chefs too.

Parker and Ston'e own vocal for black people is a lot funnier anyway imho...
Witness Chef's parents...my three-fitty's worth anyway...

The press release from the SP site says it all really
This has nothing to do with intolerance and bigotry and everything to do with the fact that Isaac Hayes is a Scientologist and that we recently featured Scientology in an episode of 'South Park.' In ten years and over 150 episodes of 'South Park,' Isaac never had a problem with the show making fun of Christians, Muslims, Mormons and Jews. He got a sudden case of religious sensitivity when it was his religion featured on the show. To bring the civil rights struggle into this is just a non-sequiter. Of course we will release Isaac from his contract and we wish him well
It's interesting that it took him so long to do it, plus he seemingly didn't have too much of a problem with it in interviews earlier this year.

AVC: They did just do an episode that made fun of your religion, Scientology. Did that bother you?
IH: Well, I talked to Matt and Trey about that. They didn't let me know until it was done. I said, "Guys, you have it all wrong. We're not like that. I know that's your thing, but get your information correct, because somebody might believe that ****, you know?" But I understand what they're doing. I told them to take a couple of Scientology courses, and understand what we do. [Laughs.]

I havent seen it for Years - has Cartmans voice really changed?
I have missed it for a few years, lost track and don't know how much I've not seen. Did Mr Garrison's & Cartman's voice change in this period of time?
Thanks.
Wasn't the episode with the hippies the only episode last season to feature Chef?
Anyway, I suspect this decision is less to do with Hayes' own thoughts on the episode and to do with fellow Scientologists asking why he was still involved with the show after that episode.

It's not changed, it's just not as high. Kind of how Homer's voice changed from series 1.

as someone has already said, chef has hardly been in the show recently so it won't be at all affected if he's never seen or heard from again. and even when he was in it, though amusing, he was hardly the best element in it, let alone it's heart and soul.
this kind of reminds me of the furore following the paedophilia episode of Brasseye, in the sense that chris morris couldn't have been proved any more correct in his parody of the media by the fact that they reacted exactly as he had portrayed them. and here isaac hayes is behaving exactly as the scientologists are portrayed in the episode in question - hypersensitive in their lack of sense of humour about about their pseudo-religion, and prepared to attack and smear those who dare question it.
i only watched this episode last weekend and thought it was superb. daring even by south park's untouchable standards. i laughed but i also felt kind of proud that a show i have watched and loved for so long, and that is inaccurately criticised by certain sections of society for just being puerile, had the guts to go up against scientology and - as always - not compromise for a moment.
whether it be the show itself, or trey and matt as creators, south park has a rare integrity. the preservation of which is far more important than the zealous, hypocritical ramblings of a man who owes his airtime these days to the very people he is selling out on.

LOL - i don't think i've ever seen a more classic example on these forums of a brilliantly worded reply thats well thought out and sums up my opinion exactly is then followed by such a funny non related silly post
see it all the time, some superb scripted post followed by 'stick it up her gary' or something similar (no offence meant to you Mr Duck, just had to point out the incongruence of those posts)

No offence taken, I've not watched south park in years, well apart from the past couple of days on paramount, not even sure how many seasons of the show there have been but after watching the mighty Butters in action, I'm sooooo tempted to buy the box sets :)
Ben Martin

I'm sooooo tempted to buy the box setsyou should. season 7 is out in the US next tuesday and contains some classic episodes such as Krazy Kripples, South Park Is Gay and Christian Rock Hard. and there are probably more, as for some reason i never saw the last five episodes of that season.
anyway, looking at the official South Park site (http://www.southparkstudios.com/), it is interesting to note the following item:
Matt and Trey on Letterman on March 15th
There's been a slight change of schedule: Matt and Trey will now be appearing on the Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday, March 15th. So be sure to tune in and catch the duo then!surely this has been bumped up so that they can address the whole Isaac Hayes thing while it's still topical? or perhaps they'll deal with it by ignoring him entirely? either way, should be funny.
i had also failed to realise that season 10 starts next wednesday! would any of us be surprised if they take Hayes/Chef to task in one of the first few episodes?
N.B. "note to self, add the thing with no name to xmas card list..." :)

Funnily enough, in January this year Isaac Hayes said this...
Nobody is exempt from their humor. They're equal-opportunity offenders. Don't be offended by it. If you take it too seriously, you have problems.
This is probably the 'Church' forcing him to leave rather than leaving of his own free will.
I would hazzard a guess that the only person who'll be REALLY affected is Isaac's bank manager!
Ben Martin

This is probably the 'Church' forcing him to leave rather than leaving of his own free will.i think you're probably right about that. it would certainly explain his sudden about-face compared to his previous comments since Trapped In The Closet originally aired.
however, he had the choice to tell his masters to shove it and obviously chose not to. so, imho, he is still responsible for the words coming out of his mouth and deserves to be judged as such.
looking at the official site again, i see that comedy central are showing the episode again tomorrow night. twice! :)

Tragic, but inevitable. Like many have said, we haven't seen much of Chef in the past couple of seasons, and I felt that his appearance in the Hippies episode was a recycling of the gag from the movie!
Still, it's a shame to see him go, and this is probably the only way Scientology will be able to get back at the show. Then again, there's always a court case round the corner in America....
Roll on season 10 next week!!!

Season 10 already!!?!
How many episodes are there per season in SP?
Ben Martin
14-03-2006, 13:53
it has varied from 13 to 18 episodes, though the last two seasons have both had 14 episodes each.
for at least the last couple of years the schedule has been to show the first half of the season in the spring (starting in march), break over the summer, and then show the second half of the season in the autumn (starting in october).

i wonder what the odds are of having chefs character killed off in an amusingly horrific fashion in the first episode of this season...
or perhaps he could undergo surgery to make him white, like kyle got surgery to make him black... and gerald got surgery to make him a ... jewphin..?
either way, not a great loss imo... perhaps a few seasons ago it would have been.

back on topic (sort of) - i've got seasons 1-5 on DVD now and got some serious catching up to do, think i stopped watching it on TV after season three - no particular reason, just kinda drifted off from watching it.
I'll get season's six and seven when they get a bit cheaper.
I'm sure the boys will think of an amusing way to end Chef's tenure at South Park Elementary. maybe he'll get sacked for what he always says to a load of kids! :D
New season next week? Awesome
An episode takes a week to make doesn't it? I think either the first or second episode will be pretty interesting :)

Mine shipped yesterday from www.axelmusic.com - great service as pernormal from them.
Season 6, for me, is still the pinnacle series, but 7 has some awesome episodes including the already mentioned Krazy Kripples, which has some killer Jimmy moments

you don't think they are going to start off with the Muhammad cartoons then?
oh god I do hope so!
LouBarlow

They've already featured the image of muhammad in 'Super Best Friends' and strangely nobody was offended...probably because he took out the evil David Blaine and a 60ft tall John Wilkes Booth...
Exactly, which is why it would be the perfect opportunity for them to comment on the whole 'cartoon' furore in their own inimitable style!
you don't think they are going to start off with the Muhammad cartoons then?
I think they're cowards if they don't!
as for Isaac Hayes he is an idiot, Matt Stone had a very good point when he said it was ok for Hayes to make fun of other religions but not his own.
I didn't even know South Park was still going, I lost interest after season 2. Apparently it started being good again, but I lost track of when it was on and just forgot about it.

That's exactly the same as me, by season 3 i got really bored with South Park.
But I have seen the last few series and they have been really funny so I am definitely interested in trying them from S4 onwards.

In truth, season 2 is pretty poor, though has some excellent moments - even admitted by the shows creators, so a lot of people did lose interest, but things picked up in 3, and by 4 it was really finding it's feet.
You can't go wrong with seasons 4-8 I think.

i beg to differ, 2 was one of the best seasons, clubhouse is one of my favourite episodes. the stuff with the fat abbot cartoon was ace.
then you had the sexual hurassment panda one, pure genius.
but my favourite series is probabily 5, just for the scot tenerman episode and cripple fight
then you had the sexual hurassment panda one, pure genius.
That's three isn't it?
But I would agree that things picked up from S4 onwards. It just became "different" - difficult to explain but I think it started to concentrate more on jokes and satire rather than the more childish kind of "shock" humour of the first couple of series.

There's a page dedicated to this on wiki. Very funny.
Where abouts is the page dedicated to it? I couldn't find it, probably right in front of me.

While I should have said 'pretty poor in comparison' I still don't rate it as highly - some of the episodes are a bit fishy, such as chickenlover etc etc - still a great watch, but the weakest episodes for me.
