View Full Version : Mayo (Alistair McGowan) - anyone watch this?
Jebus! How did this get past the script stage?
What a mess it was - the opening titles were identical to Hustle, the 'acting' (esp McGowan's) was appalling, the quirky Welsh sidekick was incredibly annoying, & the female copper seemed to have walked in from another show! (or a number of different shows, as every time she turned up she had a different haircut)
& why oh why oh why do the BBC insist on getting UK actors to try American accents? Most of them can't do it!
:gag:
I saw "New police detective drama" and thought I'll read more, then saw McGowan was in it and didn't bother checking in. Sounds as good as I thought it would be.

....not to mention a new outfit in every scene. Must have been at least half a dozen costume changes in her first 15 minutes of screen time. That’s realistic.
Didn’t seem to know if it was comedy or drama but casting Paterson (Peep Show) Joseph as the other main character tipped the scales towards comedy (or would have if it’d been funny).
What’s with McGowan’s hair? Does it come out of a can or something?
Would much rather have had a new run of 55 Degrees North instead.
Judging by the Beeb’s recent track record for recommissioning obvious cack (see Hustle, Hotel Babylon, Nighty Night, Ideal, 2 Pints, My Family etc, etc, etc....) I’m sure a second series of this rubbish is already on the cards.
Isn't it a Brit version of an equally poor US show?
I did like Mayo's desire for correct grammar. A great trait.
I caught the last 5 minutes by accident and will certainly avoid watching any more. McGowan looked totally out of place and totally unconvincing. The dialogue I caught was just terrible....and what on earth was the final flirting?? scene all about? Sexual chemistry had turned into Sentox more like ;)
Poor, poor, poor.
Didn't even bother with this, McGowan in a serious role, jesus!!!!!
