View Full Version : Stargate SG1 - 9x20 Camelot (spoilers)
Bit of a slow, low key build up, but the last 10-15 minutes WOW! One of my biggest compliants over the last 2/3 years was that SG-1 just meandered about and you knew they'd win, you felt no danger. This season feels much fresher and SG-1 feel like they've got backs to the walls and this episode left me with a real 'we're screwed' feeling. No super weapon to be found, the fleet decimated and the Ori totally in control, and only 4 ships! What a cliffhanger. Role on season 10.
So either the Odessey or the Goralev has been destroyed. Those Earth/ASgard hybrid ships are not up to much. The Ori ships though are serious, 4 of them and they bat the combined fleet aside like nobody's business.
Looks like a fair chance this time that one of the main characters might not have survived as well. Normally I would not think so, but after the death of Dr Frasier, it could be on the cards.

was that the last ep of the season ......oh er missus
I wonder what Earth ship was destroyed....
Spoilers say the Russian one, thought that makes no sense considering Mitchell and Daniel were onboard.
But who's going to go and pick Sam up!
Seriously, how the hell is this going to be explained away !!! Two daedelus class ships down in a couple of months! :o
TBH they could have killed anyone they wanted in that firefight, the cast haven't got contract negotiations have they? :help:
Must admit that Sam in the space suit watching the destruction to me had echoes of Captain Gideon in B5: Crusade or Lee Adama in Resurrection Ship of BSG. Still, very interesting cliffhanger.

Considering Daniel survives I am sure it was the Odyssey that was destroyed so not too good for us, loosing two battlecruisers in under a few months and now down to just the Daedalus.
You know what will happen next season though, either a massive Asgard fleet will drop out of hyperspace and wipe up the Ori ships and supergate or the crystal Sam put in the supergate will cause some kind of feedback and be destroyed along with the Ori ships, after they have beamed Vala away of course.

The shot of Vala watching the burning ships looked very Wolf 359 from TNG to me.
As for the Asgard - I defo saw at least 1 Asgard ship bite the big one.

There was only a single Asgard ship in the fight and I didnt see any sign of it being destroyed, did I miss something?
Lots of info (and spoilers - beware) here:

I would have thought in true stargate fashion, they all get beamed onto one of the Ori ships or something along those lines.
Stargate is actually one of those series that does tend to follow through with its cliff hangers rather than just copping out like so many of the other series. None of this, oh it was just a dream etc.
Although, with the amount of ships that they did destroy, I can definately see a time travel episode coming up.
That scene where the wormhole formed though, wow! That looked amazing, particularly from the Sam view point.
I must say that this was the best season finale SG1 has produced in years, much better than the Atlantis one - though i did enjoy that also!
Reminded me of DS9 in parts, especially the mega-destructive space battle at the end... how i miss that show!

That was okay, but not enthralling. I really enjoyed the stuff at Camelot, that felt more like the old-style Stargate episodes. Not sure what's happened with this season, but after a really promising start it's sort of faded away into blandness, and Atlantis has wiped the floor with it.
The supergate opening was fun, though. It's still pretty obvious which Earth ship got destroyed, isn't it?
Could it be... the one with no main characters onboard?! GASP!
I'm only half-heartedly looking forward to season 10 at this point, though I do always seem to enjoy things more after I've taken a break from them.

well.. nope, it was the russian one :p
It was a pretty good finale IMHO but whan happened to all the other Goa'uld ships they had? Seemed like there were only a handful of ships making a stance against the Ori invasion.
Given that they were totally pwned not long ago by some Ori-based satellite, you'd think they'd learn their lesson :)

Exactly what I thought - with their Asgaard shields being as if they weren't there and the satellite's shield being impervious to their firepower, I would have come to the conclusion that an ass-whooping was in line.
As for the other Goa'uld ships, they were spread out all over the galaxy looking for the supergate. The few ships that were in the battle were the ones that could get there in time..........I'm sure with a few hours notice, a bigger fleet could have been assembled.
Did Mitchell actually make it to an F304? fighter or what as he was on his way apparently..........? Maybe he and Sam survived the battle - though Sam will surely run out of air if no-one pops along to help her.

Something else has just sprung to mind. Weren't there 4 ancient races that helped to build the stargates?
Wasn't the Ancients, Asgard, The Nocks and some others?
If so, how are the Ancients/Ori so much more technologically advanced than the rest of them?
Also, are the Ori planning on spreading origin to the Noks?
That's definately a species that they seem to have completely forgotten about on this show.

The Furlings, IIRC. But since we've never seen them, they're probably quite good at hiding, or in a different galaxy. The producers/writers mention them every so often though.
Furlings are almost a running joke now. The writers get asked about them at pretty much every Q&A, but never give anything away.
Think they were first mentioned when O'Neill met the Asgard (Fifth Race episode) and again when they found what the thought was a Furling teleporter that sent them to the planet's moon.
edit - don't think anyone apart from the Ancients were involved in building the gates. The Asgard, Ancients, Nox and Furlings were like a ruling council for the galaxy?

We of course also got the hint that the ascended occupied another dimension, lord knows where the furlings might be!
Sure all we need do is introduce the wraith to the ori and we can let the two of them hammer each other!
When do we get the next series? I have to admit I am totally addicted to SG1 and atlantis....

Actually, one of the most unbelievable parts to this story line is that the Ori followers we have encountered have been almost entirely non-technological. To some extents the whole concept of the Ori means the followers would be that way..... so how do said followers suddenly have the ability to manufacture these mega super duper ships?!

They don't, the ships are built by the Priors.
They don't, the ships are built by the Priors. Nope, if you remember, Vala said that the men from the village went there every day and were building the ships. The Priors came at the end to "bless" them and start them up.

The only problem I have is that with the Ori now kicking some serious butt doesn't it make the Wraith heading to Earth threat from Atlantis a bit weak?
They'll get foiled en route, by Rodney talking rubbish and Ronan growling at them. Or something.

Exactly. So the Ori followers have gone from being peasants who would think a tv was the work of the gods, to being able to not only build things that previously they had not even seen from their gods, but also having access to a previously god like power.....
I much preferred the replicators as badies tbh..... wonder how the Ori would deal with them?!

Oh great, sounds like another instance of that old sci-fi cliche of
a new born baby ungoing some form of growth acceleration.
I was half expecting the same to happen in BSG.

Just watched the Atlantis season end.... how on earth with the writers avoid the wraith clashing with the Ori at some point?!
Also wondering..... it takes the asgard engined ships weeks to get to atlantis and we know that the hives are somewhat slower, it will take them ages to get to earth!
And another thing..... now having asgard engines, why have we had no thought to having a look in the asgard galaxy!?
Im starting to wonder how much longer all this can go on. We have gone from no starship whatsoever to having a load of super fast super shielded ships. To beat the Ori there is a good chance we need that ascended beating weapon.... early series there was a slow accumulation, but it is seriously accelerating now and is becoming more and more difficult to let your mind just believe it!

At the start, a lot of it it was fighting the Goa'uld and gaining the trust of other races etc.......with plenty of success, help, finding things with a greater understanding and exploration etc, a lot has been achieved, and therefore more help is being given and technological advancements being made.
The Asgaard gave Earth the upgraded engines and shielding technology after they help defeat the replicators. They wouldn't help with weapons though, thus the rail guns and basic missiles on the ships still.
The Hive ships now have the schematics for the modified engines so should get to Earth that bit faster - still need a ZPM to get there is hours/days.
As for the Asgaard galaxy, Earth has a bad habit of losing ships rather quickly, so not a lot of chance of getting something that can get there!
Do they even know where it is anyway? Didn't the Asgaard either abandon it with the Replicator war making it uninhabitable and go elsewhere or take O'Neill etc there themselves in Asgaard ships?

I very much felt the franchise was beginning to go stale during season 8 and season 9 just confirmed it. I carried on watching hoping it would get better but it never did. I can't believe this is coming back for a tenth season I don't think I'll bother next season.

It has definitely lost something this season, perhaps they have been trying to reinvent the show this series. This last episode was OK although knowing Stargate everyone will some how amazingly survive.

the whole Vala bit went on for the first 4/5 episodes, they seemed to waffle and meander aimlessly like the rest of the series. Yes, I liked the last episode but not convinced they have a plan for series 10, I think one problem was that they made the Ori almost too strong a foe that they didn't actually battle with them enough throughout the series, they kept talking about them 'off stage' which got a little tedious.
I will of course still watch as soon as SG1 comes back. Atlantis on the other hand is terrific.

I will still keep watching SG-1 although my expatiations of the show have gone down considerably, Atlantis is far and away the better of the two.

I just watched this season for the first time and it was fantastic. I did miss Jack though. Vala was great at the beginning and brought a few funny comical scenes.
They do seem to have unlimited funds to build these big ships, destroy them and then still have replacements ready. Perhaps it is build three and get one free type of thing.
I really liked the ending but won't watch S10 until I for Atlantis S3 to watch afterwards.
Going to watch Atlantis S2 now.

Never thought that at all. They didn't waffle and meander aimlessly to me. The whole seasons was very action orientated.

I think you get a very different view of a show, if you're not waiting a week (or longer) between episodes.
Enterprise S3 got slated for being slow and plodding, i watched it over 3 days and thought it was terrific - and this was after thinking Seasons 1 & 2 were "meh".

The same can be said of The X Files. Even though I enjoyed it on the TV (even S9). It is still even better on DVD. I watch all of Sg1 season 9 in a week.
I gave up on watching the latest SG1 episodes a while ago when Channel 4 stopped showing them at the end of Season 7 when Enterprise also ended (don't have Sky 1).

It is true for most shows if you watch several episodes at a time, it even makes the first half of B5 season 5 bearable. My GF only ever follows a show if I have it on DVD or it is being shown everyday as she can not be asked with waiting when season ends and the next begins.
