I've just had a call from Tesco customer support to ask me if i was still the owner of my TV to which i replied yes.
The guy then told me that there was another fault on a board that could cause it to overheat. It has already been modified once because of this.
He suggested that i immediately unplugged it and not to use it.
There offer is to either have £300 reimbursed onto a credit card, or send you a cheque for the same value
I plumped for the cheque, which i should receive just after Christmas.
Now i've either got a free TV, or a ticking bomb in my Lounge :)
If you haven't received a call, i'd suggest you give them a ring
Best of Luck

In actual fact this is in response to a visitor to the DVD Reviewer's Forum, where I moderate, after his 4:3 telly burst into flames, so it's not just limited to the widescreen models now.
This is the second recall of the widescreen players, and I think they are just playing safe. It also possibly affects the M8 TV sets too.
From Tesco web site
"Urgent Safety Notice
28" Widescreen TV
WHARFEDALE M8 AND 890 models only. (The model number is printed on the back of the TV)
Profilo Electronics is checking and modifying some Wharfedale Widescreen TV's which may contain a faulty component. The fault could cause a fire.
Those customers who have had this fault rectified by our engineers do not need to contact us again. If you have not yet contacted us you must without delay:
Turn the TV off and unplug it
Contact the customer helpline of FREEPHONE 0800 0732473
A free of charge home visit will be arranged to check, and if necessary modify your set. No other sizes or models of Wharfedale TV are affected.
Profilo Electronics apologise for any inconvenience caused. "
This seems therefore to only affect the models quoted.
Stu Ward - I don't think we get to keep the old telly as well as get £300 back - do we???

Done it!
£300 on its way to me!!!
And they are calling me in the new year to arrange the uplift of the set.
Looks like Tescos have messed up in bringing in this badged up Profilo equipment!!
Whatever next, there'll be hell up if the DVD players went up the spout too!!!

Nothing was mentioned to me about picking up the set
If they ring me in the new year now, i'll say it went in the bin after the phone call

Be careful.
They then could suggest that you never had the set in the 1st place.....

The other half had one of these firetraps, and accepted a full refund. She asked Tesco when they would be collecting, only to be told that they'd "let her know" in due course.
She received another call from Tesco a couple of days ago, asking if she'd been told about her telly. She said that had already been refunded, and asked when they would collect. Again, they couldn't tell her.
Today, a van from Direct Line (not the insurance lot) turned up, and asked for the telly. She pointed out that Tesco hadn't told her that they were coming, only to be told "Yeah, Tesco don't seem to be bothering with that". It was pure fluke that she was in, as she'd taken the day off work.
I'm guessing that they were above board, as how would a crook know that she had a knackered TV for collection?
Anyway, the point of this tale is that if you have got a refund off of Tesco for your Wharfedale toaster, sorry TV, don't be surprised if someone turns up out of the blue to collect it.
