Just thought that people who've seen this film and would like to give general comments could post here, without spoiling the film for others.

I'll post my comments, and perhaps people thinking of seeing it can get our impression without having the film spoilt.

I'm a big big fan of the books and I was very impressed at how they portrayed the whole experience on the film.

OK, it's not literal to the books but so what?

On it's own it stands as one of the greatest cinematic events I've witnessed on the big screen.

The last time I remember being that impressed was probably Superman II.

There are a few times when it all slows down, but I think it's needed to flesh things out.

Loved the prologue at the start. Overall I loved it.

I totally agree, I didn't want to get involved in the other thread as there were too many spoilers floating around, but as another fan who has and enjoys all the books (including the sometimes maligned Silmarillion) I totally enjoyed the film. Sure there were many bits missed, but as pointed out in the other thread, the film is a glorious 3 hours long and you have to call a halt to the level of depth somewhere.
A definate watcher for anyone who is wondering, and imho a buyer when availble on DVD, the only downside is 12 months for part 2.

Look at it this way... how many years did you have to wait for Part 1 - that should put the 12 months into perspective :)

Can't wait to see this one - it is not released into the cinemas here until Boxing Day :( (Now if we can just find a baby sitter)

regards, Tim...
