REOC A5 DVD Player (Safeway)

My Sony S335 is in for urgent repair, so I decided to try one of these. Anyone know any region hacks for this ? Or where else to look ?
In case anyone's interested, it seems very good. Excellent RGB connected picture on my 100hz Panasonic, and mechanically it operates very smoothly. Remote is atrocious, too many little buttons. Price was £129.

Yeah, it's a Sampo clone : we're still trying to find a hack : the DVE611/Sharp DV740 hacks don't appear to work.

It runs off the same firmware as the Sharp and Sampo players, but it seems there is a different sequence of numbers as featured at the Area 450 hack page here (http://www.area450.com/hacks/regionhack.htm) - I think the only advice I can offer is to keep checking back at Area 450 : the hack will out eventually.

Incidentally, you don't have the facilities to take a dump of the firmware from the EEPROM chip do you, he asked cheekily....we may be able to find the hack then :)

'Press 'open/close' on the handset, key in 9999 or 8421, and a screen appears showing the region set. Press the 'enter' key repeatedly to choose the region you want - 9 is region free.'

I thought it was selling at £99 . That is the price quoted in the "What HiFi" review.

And a big thanks from me Philatio, looked up the link, burnt the CD, and now i'm region free. Excellent. The NTSC to PAL conversion seems rather good too. Continue to be very pleased with my purchase.

By the way Simes the A3 is 99.95, the A5 was originally 139.95 but subsequently reduced to £129.

And Robbiejm the hand-set hack doesn't work on my A5.

The handset hack mentioned is for the A3 (also taken from the Reoc pages)

Any idea when the REOC plasma screens are on sale?

These are the 42-inchers which Safeway will be knocking out for £4000 - there's a nice picture of one in What HiFi this month but they haven't said when they're due to go on sale - may be worth contacting Safeway (http://www.safeway.co.uk) to see whether they know ?
