View Full Version : Strange TV problem

My Toshiba Widescreen sometimes makes a loudish ticking noise from inside the TV.
It's loud enough to hear when there are quiet moments on TV programs (I'm pretty close; 7ft away)
It seems to only do it on bright scenes, such as sky news where they use a lot of white or when the sky banner is up on the screen when 'surfing'.
The TV is working fine. No problems, just this. Is it a 'feature'? Anyone heard of this before?

It could be something like HT voltage leaping to earth, or it could be something simple like plastic components heating up...

It is only when there are really bright images on screen. I guess this could make components heat up? as it's working harder?
Thing is, it works okay, but I'm kind of concerned over the safety of using the set. It's only 18 months old and the picture is great. It's the toshiba 28" widescreen by the way (28Wdb or something like that).
I don't want it to catch fire or anything.

Catches fire. Insurance money. Brand new BIG TV.
I don't think you can live in a BIG TV if your house burns down.

Cheers guys, but this is a serious question.
Is ticking or crackling? In very bright scenes lots more electrons are striking the phosphor. This causes a sudden increase of static electricity on the front of the screen. Small discharges make the crackling noise.

no, it's def a ticking sound from inside the cabinet of the set. it's not like the sound of when you touch the screen with static on it making the crackling sound.
