I still have a samsung 709,and recently brought a video logic digitheatre with decoder to take advantage of the dolby 5.1 sound, but the decoder would not except the dolby digital signal or even go into the AC-3 mode. I'm think the problem is with the receiver but I was wondering if there is any way to test that the 709 is outputting the digital signal via the s/pdif cable. the prologic via the stereo inputs works fine though.
might be setting on the sammy, have a look at http://www.709online.com/709faq.htm#faq3-4

I'd tried that, and a differnet cable, so I thinks it's a connector problem. thanks anyway.

I have a sammy connected to a Kenwood receiver which works fine after I set this :
In the 709 Set up menu go to "Audio Options"
If your amp/decoder can process "Dolby Digital" turn the setting from "PCM" to "Bitstream"
If your amp/decoder can process "MPEG2" turn the setting from "PCM" to "Bitstream"
If your amp/decoder can decode DTS turn this "ON".
If you amp/decoder can't process a type of signal then leave it set to either "PCM" or "OFF" and your 709 will send a digital stereo signal to your amplifier/decoder
If you have tried that (looks like you have from the post above), then it does indeed look like a connector problem.
You don't have any nice friends who have a receiver you could loan to test the connector do you ?
