dvd hc system usually have dvd player / decoder (for dolby digital and/or DTS) / amp / speakers (satellites and subwoofer). Something like the goodmans 3500 (£200), sony DAV-S lineup, pioneers...
one without dvd player includes decoder / amp / speakers. something like the sony HTK lineup. But be careful as some kits may not include a decoder, this is OK if you have a built in decoder in your dvd player, otherwise you'll one.
Whether they're any good will probably depend on what your use to listening to. If its a bog standard nicam TV, then yeh.
Cheers, i currently own a pioneer 444, which i am lead to believe does not carry a decoder..Thanks for the help, will carry on lookin.

I ordered a 444 for a friend and he bought a sony HKT215 kit for it, purely for looks/compactness not performance. he's very happy with it though and its dd and dts as well :)
is that the one on richer sounds for £269? there is no mention of any kinda av amp.
I can't find it on the RS site...
It this one (http://212.250.57.233/ProductGallery2001Variables/BrowseByCategory/HomeEntertainment/000394.asp?ShowRange=Yes&Percentage=40&New=No&Cat=Home+Entertainment&subCat=Home+Cinema+Kits&Ire=&CatID=9). It doesn't mention DTS but apparently it is (stamped on the top of the unit). Digitheatre DTS is a well praised unit as well.
I was prolly lookin at the wrong thing..Cheers bud
May I be so bold as to suggest anothe ralternative to the Digitheartre and the Sony.....Yamaha VS10. Check www.leconcepts.com.
