After a lot of thread reading etc I have decided on a Pioneer DVD slimline system .

One question, what is the difference (technically) between the DV-545 and the DV-444.

Hi-Bit integrated circuit requantises 16-bit digital signals to 24-bit for a more natural sound with less of a 'digital edge'
Legato link conversion PRO (aka digitally remastering of CDs)
Plays DVD-RW recorded in Video Recording Mode playback
A better remote control unit
Twin SCARTs

Had a quick play with the one I received from UGH yesterday and the 444 remote is awful. Luckily it's not for me 'cos I couldn't live with it.
