is vcd/mpeg the format that most movie, video files are downloaded from the net ???? and could these be downloaded, burnt to disc and used on a compatible dvd ?????...... if so what type of dvd is required ? cheers :D
First of all welcome to the forums! - (Also read the Terms & Conditions of the forums)
Ok, first of all downloading movies from the internet is illegal (unless you own the original and need the copy for backup!).
Next of all - the most popular format of downloadable movies at the moment is DivX (avi). This format cannot be played in normal DVD players but can be converted to VCD so that they can be played - i'll give you a link to a useful site with all the tools you need:

Hope this helps!

Cheers :) can mpeg files be played on a dvd ?
An Mpeg can only be played in a DVD player if it is in the VCD format otherwise it will not play back properly - also in a lot of cases the the Video CD must be created using special VCD creation software like Nero or adaptec otherwise the DVD player will not recognize it as a video cd - some players however will play the file if it is just burnt straight on to the CD in a normal way!

thanks alot !!!!! just one more questoion. what player would you recommend for about 100 quid that has all the features i am looking for (mp3, vcd, dvd) :)
probably the dansai from Tescos if you can find one (not too sure about vcd playback though). Might be worth checking this thread (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41107) from the bargain forum.

Or perhaps the Cyberhome ADL528 from WHS or Richer Sounds. The hardware forum will usually have a thread or two about budget players.
best thing to do would be to post another thread and title it -
"Where can i find a DVD player (mp3, VCD, CDR, CDRW) for £100!"
