Found this on R2 Project (http://www2.r2-dvd.org/index.jsp)
Many thanks to a distributor who tells me that all the James Bond disks from MGM have now been deleted. Distributors can no longer order them from MGM so once the disks on the shelves are sold that's the lot. Expect a re-release of the disks next Autumn to coincide with the next bond movie.

Yeah, typical!

I only have a couple of titles, but was planning on getting the rest eventually - doesn't seem much point if they'll be re-released again next year. :(

I don't see the point. The Bond discs are some of the best special editions around, so I can't see how they could be improved. I imagine they'll just be re-released with new covers to **** everybody off.

The region 1 discs were placed on moratorium many months ago (the start of the year I seem to recall).

Makes sense for a marketing point of view. You don't want all the old versions on the shelves when the new product is out, do you?

I think thats unecessary as I prefer watching films in the format they were recorded in (There are some exceptions of course)

I seem to remember Goldfinger got the 5.1 treatment as it was released on laserdisc in that format. However I thought it didn't use the 5.1 that much and would of prefered the mono/stereo track.

Some of the transfers could be improved.

Just held the box set tin in my hands, they where selling it for £299 i have to say the tin-box is off very low quality, i really don't know anyone wanting this. it's made of very very thin sheet metal (worse then the T2 tin)

You could've got the R4 set for 140 quid-ish from dvdcrave, I think.

I wonder if they really mean all the discs or just the boxset, which is definately discontinued, dont seem to be any problems at the moment with getting the discs

I doubt they'll make any changes at all.

For years they went through a cycle of releasing the series on VHS, then delete them, then re-release them with different cover-art, then delete them, re-release them, etc.

It's normal practise to re-issue them. The only change they ever made with Bond on VHS was a long time ago when they remastered them all and started doing them in widescreen (mid 90s?), but after that they were re-issued probably at least half a dozen times all identical other than the covers.

This happens a lot with DVD too. I've noticed a fair number of titles undergo a 'cover change' without having altered the contents. In the case of Bond though it's a good marketing ploy to delete them all and leave the market dry of Bond for a while to generate enough demand for the re-issues.

To change the discs costs a lot more. Currently the things that need sorting I think are...

1. OHMSS needs to be the full uncut version as passed by the BBFC, not "we can't be arsed to dig out the full version that we remastered for VHS"
2. Licence to Kill also needs to be full uncut version as passed by the BBFC (same goes - why get all cuts waived by BBFC only to then be lazy and release the cut version?)
3. Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies need to be resubmitted at 15 cert and BBFC not to impose their daft rule about not allowing a higher cert when a lower cert previously existed (or something like that).
4. DD 5.1 tracks? Would be nice, but it's worth remembering that all of these films up to The Man With The Golden Gun were mono originally. Certainly those that are DD2.0 surround should be 5.1.
5. Finish the documentaries with Patrick Macnee as they seemed to have abandoned those after Licence to Kill for some reason.
6. Any errors? I think there were some in R1 (subtitles or something?).
7. And if we're to rebuy them, give us an option of getting the box to reward our loyalty rather than later turning on their original promise of supplying a box and only providing it to those who buy the box complete with all the videos .
