Media Question

I've just purchased my first dvd recorder and it records in both + and - formats. I've read quite a lot about the 2 types of media, trying to determine which is my best option but there seems to be quite a lot of contradictory information out there and so I'm none the wiser really! As these forums have a lot of experienced and knowledgeable people, I'd like to know whether, given the choice, would you use dvd+r or dvd-r for archiving and for home movies and the like.

DVD-R is probably slightly better as it is compatible with more DVD players than the DVD+R format.
