i brought the hp deskjet 5740 a little while ago from comet (bout 3 months) and its not being read properly on my computer, and it says its malfuctioned. i havethe recipt will they just simply change it just that ?

Windows is notoriously useless and can randomly decide a usb device has changed and try to re-initialise the driver and muck itself up or get confused with multiple usb devices being connected either simultanously or at different times. So its possible you just have to un-install and re-install the driver of the printer. Most geniune printer faults are on the mechanical side or clogged inkjets. I would suspect your problem is most likely PC related or possibly a poor cable.

i ave been trying it on different ports, and reintalling it/unistalling it to noavail

well its definetly the printer, i tested it on 2 different pc's.
