Heres one I can't sort out (realistically, not had the time to look lately).

Ok, heres the setup:

JVC 32" Widescreen 100Mhz TV -- Three Scart Inputs
JVC S-VHS Video -- Not connected to Scart
Pioneer ITV-DigiBox -- Connected to Scart 1
Sky DigiBox -- Connected to Scart 2 (also connected to Scart 1 on S-VHS)
Toshiba DVD Player -- Connected to Scart 3

--- okay ---

My problem is that, if I record from Sky onto Video, it records absolutely perfectly when I play it back (on another video etc) -- but if I turn to channel 0 on the JVC TV, the picture is not at all clear, its actually quite horrible -- its 'bitty' -- you could sit and watch it and it wouldn't give you a headache, its just not very clear.

Not a lot to go on, but any ideas?

Mine's similar, a bit grainy - perhaps JVC videos have a weak RF signal when playing back tapes (a bit odd, as it's fine passing the TV signal through to the TV). But as I don't use the RF output, it doesn't really bother me.

But why buy a SVHS VCR and then restrict it's performance by using the RF output - no stereo sound, and no S-video picture.
You don't by chance also feed the RF into the ITVDigibox first, out of that to the VCR and then out of the VCR to the TV, so you can tape off that too?

Try this

RF into ITV STB, then to VCR, and then to TV.

ITV STB VCR SCART - SCART1 on VCR
SKY STB VCR SCART - SCART2 on VCR

DVD SCART - TV RGB SCART (1?)
VCR Svideo/audio jacks - TV S-video SCART (2?) (or S-video and audio jacks)
SKY STB TV SCART - TV SCART 3

You could also cable up the S-video jack/audio phonos on the DVD player to the S-video IN/audio IN phonos on the VCR, if your VCR has macrovision disabled, and for some reason you wanted to copy a DVD onto tape.

Fair enough, you'd have to watch ITV Digital through your VCR to get the best picture, but it'd still be available on RF if you wanted (eg for when the VCR is taping BBC1 or something).
Plus, you always have the option of watching most things on SKY anyway.

If you have an amp, then obviously the 2 STBs and VCR (plus perhaps the TV if it has audio out phonos) would have their audio out phonos going to the amp. The DVD would obviously be connected via a digital cable (or a 6channel phono leads if it's an inbuilt decoder type). If the amp does video switching, you could also use this to switch the video signals if you wanted.
You could also get a SCART switcher box and connect the two STBs to that, and from there to the TV's SCART3.

There are several ways you could do it all, all of which would be much better than using a VCR on RF.
