WHER CAN I BUY THE CHIP AND HOW MUCH IS IT? ANY IDEA?
THANKS,
YEP!
I thought Sony's were behind the region coding in the first place, therefore rendering the hardware uncrackable without a chip?

There are no hacks available for any Sony machine. Hope you got it nice and cheap, because if you want region free, you will have to pay!

BUT I HEAR THERE ARE MOD CHIPS FOR THEM ALSO THERE IS WORD THAT YOU CAN BYPASS THE REGION BY THE JUMPERS ON THE SYSTEM BOARD. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE IT IS POSSIBLE.

NOPE!
I FOUND THIS ON INTERNET.
Region Coding
It is claimed that using SYScon fimrware 2.020 and turning on the "switches" (by shorting jumpers on the board), it is possible to defeat region coding. I haven't yet tried this myself.

LOL!!
I'm not an authority on shorting jumpers on mainboards, but I think your US player has more than region coding to worry about if it won't play Region 1 DVDs. :p
