Guys... apologies if this has been asked recently, but a mate of mine from work is goin' home to France for the Silly Season, and he's kindly offered to bring me back some discs. I'd love to pick up the Beat Takeshi Kitano double sets - Sonatine / Jugatsu and Violent Cop / Kids Return but I gotta find out the usual stuff first - the pic / sound quality and the subtitles angle...

Maybe someone could help ?

Also would it be possible to start a thread where everyone would post in their recommendations for French DVDs ( including all the necessary info. ) - I keep stumbling across saucy French editions and it takes me ages to grab the specs off the Net. Amazon.fr are typically vague with their disc-features - You'd swear they didn't wanna sell this stuff !

As always, Big Shout to this great Forum ! Enjoy the holidays ( and the movies )

Didn't know about these, but having just checked here (http://www.dvdfr.com/index.php3) it would seem there are only French subtitles :(

Hope this helps,

Edge

Oh ****! What a wind-up...
Thanks for the link and the info Edge... I thought the single edition of HANA-BI carried English subs, so naturally I expected English subs on the double-set...

MIA have released Violent Cop and are releasing Sonatine in their 'Tokyo Bullets' label on R2 but early indicators are that they will be ***** in Quality as MIA seem to be doing a 'Tartan'

Thanks for the post Rohail. I really hate it when a great film is picked up by a bunch of amateurs like MIA who seem totally oblivious to releasing quality product. Their catalogue actually has some really good stuff on it, but made totally inaccessible due to their disastrous DVD efforts. I wanted to pick up a pretty cool Hong Kong movie called YOUNG AND DANGEROUS - but its on MIA and the quality is beyond awful... The only MIA disc I have is LA TAKEDOWN - Michael Mann's blueprint film for HEAT. The quality isn't too hot but its the only version of it around...
