Anyone know whether these are encoded for R2 players or any useful websites which give this information ?

Some of the Ausie dvd retailers may give such info but you could also try www.michaeldvd.com.au as it's an excellent site. In fact, most discs are compatible with R2 players and if you bought one that wasn't you could easily trade it in the classifieds.

I can tell you that R4: Moulin Rouge will not work on a plain R2 player.
