hi bought a netgear wireless router/modem at the weekend and tried to install it tonight its model no DG834GT/GTB.

after earlier problems i connected and setup the router via a ethernet cable and i can get on the net no problems etc, however how do i set the wireless bit up, everytime i disconnect the ethernet cable and go to the browser it shows page cannot be displayed.

this must be really easy to sort but i'm pretty new to all this and just cant get my head round it.

thanks
rob

Hello mate.

Whilst you're still connected by ethernet cable, have you added the MAC address of the wireless card to the router's permitted list? (under WIRELESS SETTINGS / SETUP ACCESS LIST)

If the wireless icon is there, double click to open it up, click on the SUPPORT tab and then click on DETAILS .....

At the top of the list of details should be a physical (MAC) address in this format: A0-B1-C2-D3-E4-F5

With the ethernet cable connected, browse to http://192.168.0.1 and follow the steps in my first post ..... that should do it (I think!)

I wouldnt bother messing about with MAC codes to start with.

Firstly under wireless settings, give your wireless network a name (SSID). Make sure 'Enable Wireless Access Point' and 'Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)' are both ticked.
Make sure the secruity is set to disabled.

Click on the setup access list and make sure 'Turn Access Control On' is NOT ticked.

Now hopefully using the device you using wirelessly, you need to right click on your wireless connection select 'view avaliable wireless networks' and you should see your previuosly named connection. Click on that and you should be away.
