If he is classed as a midfielder (which I think many did) then he did score a hat trick in the premiership for Leeds against Spurs.

Yep - opening season of the Premiership, he also scored one against us (Liverpool) in the Premiership at the Dell in '94. Perhaps he's considered a striker?

Berger's was in '97 IIRC.

Was the Cantona one not in the list either then?

There's no way Cantona was a midfielder and if people are to class him as one then they'd have to do the same with all support/second strikers inlduing Bergkamp and Rooney.

I'd also say Le Tiss was considered a striker as it's where he played most of his career though he has played as a winger.

I always considered Cantona as an attacking midfielder, playing just behind a lone striker or two forwards but who also went out wide on occasions (very similar to Rooney in some respects.) I always thought Leeds signed him as a midfielder....

Cantona was a striker, simple as.

Barmby did start life as a striker, which would explain the omission.

Though you would have thought that would exclude Scholes too if that was the case

He played right /midfield for quite a while for Everton...it was when Walter Smith was 'experimenting' with a formation consisting of only defenders. He also played upfront for about 6 games

How many of those midfielders might have been playing out of their usual position as a striker when they scored the hat-trick though? Should that still count as a hat-trick by a midfielder?

Chris Bart Williams was certainly playing as an emergency striker for Wednesday when he scored his - I was there!
