Reading the T&Cs on the Parcel2Go (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=14672&a=60823&g=94545) website, it states:

11. Items not carried
The Customer undertakes that the Company shall not be required or caused to carry or convey anything if such carriage or conveyance would be unlawful. The Company will not, without its specific agreement. carry livestock. liquids, perishable goods, glass, gases, pyrotechnics, arms and ammunition or corrosive, toxic. flammable. explosive, oxidising or radio-active materials. The Company reserves the right to refuse any parcels which are neither the property of, nor sent on behalf of, the Customer.
I have to ship a couple of TFT monitors... the reason I post is because when I completed the online form to request a collection for onward delivery, I entered the item as "Monitor" - this subsequently took me to a page stating the item would not be insured and referred me to clause 11 above which I have reproduced.

Now, a TFT monitor isn't glass, is it? So, what's the general consensus? Would a TFT monitor be covered by insurance?

TIA...

i wouldn't send anything at all by these guys...out of 3 collections i arranged, only one turned up...they didn't answer calls or emails and i had to do a chargeback for the times they failed to show...

I agree, it took them over a week to collect a PC base unit to send to Surrey - It would have been quicker to deliver it myself :oh-hum:

Yeah, I know they're worse than useless, but they are cheap and once they have the package they've always been OK to deliver it... Just as well their depot is close to me so I can hand deliver... and give them a wasted journey instead of me a wasted day waiting in! :D

As always it's worth pointing out that it's not Parcel2go that are slow making the collection, they just pass your order on to DHL so it's your local DHL office that's being slack. Personally I've always had fantastic service from them, no major problems in at least 100 shipments recently, many of which were PCs and laptops....

I've never had any problem getting through on their phone line and I phone them at least once a week, never spent more than 5 minutes on hold and they've never failed to be helpful when I do speak to them.

Spartcus, you can tell them during the booking process that you are going to drop the parcel off at the local depot to avoid wasting the drivers time...

More suited to suppliers in this...

I'm not sure I'd risk anything breakable with them - they managed to almost destroy a base unit I sent one time, and their promised 'next day' delivery took almost a week. Obviously they subsequently ignored requests for compensation for the damaged goods...

On the other hand, I've got nothing but praise for Pharos International (http://www.pharos-international.co.uk) and their costs aren't much more than P2G.

Used Parcel2Go twice, both times they have failed to collect. On the last occassion, when they finally did collect, the item (a printer) arrived broken. They never replied to any of my phone calls/emails. Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now.

Most cheap couriers will not insure glass. Technically TFT monitors are not made of glass so you might get away with it in the event of a claim. You will have to either send it uninsured, arrange your own insurance or use a specialist courier.

you might get away with it in the event of a claim

I wouldn't be happy to risk it, given the experiences of people on this forum who have needed to claim...

When you order through Parcel2Go you have to declare what is in the package.

When I have typed in "monitor" before, a message has come up saying this item is sent at the senders risk, no insurance etc.

I'd personally go with Pharaohs mentioned above.
