ratio....1.33:1?+2.35:1?+1.85:1? someone explain!!

the ratio's on the back of DVDs just confuse me, can someone tell me what they all mean in a nice easy explanation.
also which are suitable for normal TV screens and which ones is for widescreen.
enhanced for 16x9 tellies, what are they on about??
