Having missed these on the film 4 free weekend I was thinking of purchasing them. But before I do I thought I would ask my good ol forum buddies what they are like and what is the best/cheapest versions of them to get?

I know there was a thread a whil back on these films but I cant find it! :(

I managed to catch them when they were on the FilmFour weekend. I thought i'd better seeing as it was free.:D I actually liked them, i thought they were more creepy than scary, but definately worth a watch IMO. I don't think the sequel was any where near as good as the first but still worth a watch if you enjoyed the first. I'm not sure what the DVD situation is like. I think the R2 DVDs are a bit crappy, i would say at least give them a rent if you think they might not be your kinda thing.

Looking forward to seeing Ring 0 which i think is getting a DVD release in March and it'll be interesting to see what Gore Verbinski (The Mexican/Mousehunt) does with the remake for Dreamworks.

I've got the Ring R2 (Tartan :() release and it's watchable but only just. The picture is anamorphic but is way too contrasty with light coloured areas being bleached out and dark areas being completely black. The subtitles unfortunately are burned in and vanish into light coloured areas from time to time. There is a staggering amount of print damage at the beginning of the final reel although it only lasts a few seconds and there's also a reel change noise on the audio track :rolleyes: As for the audio, it's Pro-Logic with little use of surround effects but it's clear enough.

All I can say is that I really hope that there is a better release of this sometime in the future as it's a really shoddy presentation of the best psychological horror film I've seen.

Edit Oh, and there's a review on DVDTimes for more info.

Ta Robby :)
I have read several reviews and have heard what people have said abd think I will enjoy them.
I have also read that the R2 release of Ring isn't that great so I need to know what the best versions/regions are right now or if there is any good versions planned?!

Also, prolly being thick here but what is Ring 0?

It's the Prequel to the other two but is the most recent of the series :)

Don't know about Ring 2 but the Tartan release of Ring is pretty shoddy (to say the least). Ring 2 may well be OK, I'm just hoping someone does the first one justice at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Thought Ring was awesome (granted the DVD is pretty poor, but the movie itself is great). Caught Ring 2 on the filmfour weekend and found it pretty impenetrable. Despite watching the whole film intently me & my mates (so it's not just thickness on my part) were constantly asking: "who's he again?", ".. and they're doing what?", "What's up with her?"
It is probably very good but for me it tried to add FAR too much to the original and tried to explain what should have been left a mystery.

Did anyone notice the Surround action in FilmFour's showing of Ring? My Surrounds were going beserk! I've never heard a Dolby Surround/Pro Logic track like it! Nice one!

Personally preferred the second film which i thought was more spooky than the first. Both films were a bit slow though.

Loved them both. Ring was the best horror I`ve seen. It was more of a thriller actually, and generally very spooky and scary at times. Extremely well-mounted film, I didn`t expect it to be that good. The sequel was just as good, although I preferred the first. I didn`t even know there was a prequel coming, looking forward to it now though. Anywho, Ring`s amazing...see it.
