View Full Version : Good news about R1 Gregory's Girl
It has both the original Scottish track, and the milder re-dub (and English subtitles, obviously!).
The transfer is apparently also gorgeous, in it's correct ratio, and anamorphic, making it the one to go for.

WAIT a minute....the film was originally 4:3, or at the very least open matte, wasn't it? I seem to remember Mr Brooke saying this several times...?
The soundtrack news is good, though. :)

Gregory's Girl may well have been filmed open-matte, but it's certainly intended for a wider ratio. As it's a low-budget British movie, 1.75:1 is quite likely, and that ratio is close enough to 16:9 to make no difference.
I can't be more specific than that, as it's been quite some time since I saw the film.

When I reviewed the R2 disc, I cropped it to 14:9 and it looked absolutely fine - I suspect it would have been shown in 1.66:1 in British cinemas.
But it's rather academic, since - to put it mildly - this isn't one of the world's most overwhelmingly visual films!
Incidentally, I'm delighted to hear about this new release - having seen the dubbed version (or at least the first fifteen minutes, as much as I could stand!), I was worried that that might be the only soundtrack on offer, but if it has the original Scottish and subtitles (something sorely lacking from the R2), it's a clear first choice.
It can also be picked up for a smidgen over a tenner.
Nice. ;)
