My girlfriend picked one of these up for me earlier. I'd been looking on Yesasia for the past few days (£150 for the value/no games), but decided to check out Amazon to see their prices...Not bad at all seeing as you'll have your PSP with you in a couple of days, unlike having to worry about customs with yesasia

Not sure what firmware it is but knowing my luck its 2.1+ :oh-hum:

EDIT: It's firmware 2.5

Yea that's what I thought seeing as PCworld are selling the value on it's own for £179!

I got the Value+Colin Macrae+Pro accessories pack (cuz I know i'll scratch the **** outta it!).
I'm just hoping it isn't the latest firmware, or at least the ones I can't downgrade. I persuaded my GF she'll be able to play old-skool mario games on it....eep =/

These will definately be firmware 2.01 or above so no chance of homebrew :oh-hum:

Ahhhh crap. How'd you know they'll definetly be +2.01+? God, I hope they find a workaround it so I can downgrade to 1.50

What versions do you think the ones on yesasia would be?

Can't post it here, but homebrew is not impossible on firmware 2.01. Read about the internet and you will see why! GTA: LCS required though.

When the PSP was launched in the UK they had v2.01 installed on them.

v1.5 was only available on Jap and USA PSPs.

You're actually wrong. I think a friends came with 1.52. He happily upgraded to 2.00 before putting 1.5 on it.

My brother bought one recently and it had 2.01 on it.

So 2.01 is bad? (there's the GTA 'exploit' but that doesnt help much right?)

Correct the first batch did have 1.52 on it, the 2.0 firmware was on the sampler disk.

Okay, I may sound like an idiot here, but what does it matter which version it is?

This seems a good price to me.

It means you can't install emulators to play games from other consoles.

Which is a bit funny in my eyes, buy a PSP but play anything but PSP games on it :D
Still, I can't blame them for wanting to play something decent on it.

IMO the prices are waaaaay too high for the PSP games...they should be £20 MAX...not £35 bloody quid! Homebrew would just be handy because you could have a load of SNES/Mega Drive roms to just mess around with when you're bored.
I'm hoping and praying the coders find a workaround to play homebrew on 2.1+ :oh-hum:

Ah, I think I get it now. I would then also presume early versions would allow you to play downloaded PSP games? :nono: :suspect:

Yep up until 2.0, then Sony stitched it all up ;/

I never said I would play pirate copies of their games. I don't agree with the £35 price tags on them but I can't argue. But I think stopping people from playing games that are 10+ years old is just silly!

Movies are way to expensive as well, some prices are miles above the DVD equivalent

Yesasia always pay for your customs fees, i've ordered many items from them. This is also noted in the checkout process.

been thinking about this.

would the amazon deal work out cheaper if you ebayed the games? how much would they fetch?

mamboboy
27-01-2006, 12:49
you're looking at getting about £20-£25 for each game i'm thinking. Make sure ya don't get the spiderman package though because that movie goes for like £7 on there ;/

d'oh that was the onw i was thinking of getting - didn't realise it was the movie!

which one for sellability then: midnight club 3 / mercury or kao challengers / toca 2?

mamboboy
27-01-2006, 14:08
to be honest they'll probably go for about the same. Midnight Club 3 and TOCA 2 seem to go for around £20-£23, and mercury/kao challengers for around £12-15

I went for the colin mcrae and accessories package - it comes with (louder) headphones, car adapter, usb cable, case (the one that comes with the value is hardly a 'case'), screen protectors (which i all messed up and had to throw out) and UMD cases...thats it i think.

OH AND FOR THOSE WHO HAVE 2.1+, SNES GAMES CAN NOW BE PLAYED ON THEM...
