View Full Version : Ballpark figure for some PHP/database work (now with added NUDITY!)
Just wondering if anybody can give me a rough guide of how much we should be expecting for a job we're tendering right now.
In it's simplest terms it's a PHP database for an online Content Management System, but I'll break it down a little more:
1. Takes a folder of images (100 or so in each folder) from local computer, creates thumbnails, html pages and also separate product description page.
2. Adds product to alphabetically sorted directory.
3. Allows 'tagging' of product with keywords to be utilised in a...
4. Search engine that turns up results according to product name and also keywords.
5. Adds new products to a 'new this week' page.
6. Allows for sub-items to be added to main product page.
I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me a very rough estimate for a job like that. :)
EDIT: Right then, new subject might get a little more attention... :suspect:
Nobody? :(
Or alternatively does anybody know any forums where I might be able to get a rough idea from?
TIA!

I personally would charge about £500, but i'm pretty sure it might be double if not triple that in the overpriced industry that is webdesign.
Thanks for that Dean.
Nobody know any forums where PHP coders and database folk hang out?
Alternatively, I'd be happy to put this job out to tender if anybody feels capable of it? Please email me (addy in profile) if you're interested and want further information. :)
I think the reluctance to post is down to the vagueness of the "brief" eg you don't say how this "product description page" will be created simply from the uploaded image. So your system will need some analysis, design, build and testing. What you have proposed could be anything from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. A professional freelance PHP/MySQL programmer would charge anything up to £250 a day, a bedroom boy would come in cheaper but might not be around to fix things or build a phase 2 if required. Hope this helps.
Thanks for that Steford, I'll try to be a little clearer.
The "product description page" will basically be outputted from text fields entered when the product is created.
Hmm... flipping a coin here... okay, tails, I'll be a little more explicit and maybe it will help people to understand... it is for an ADULT WEBSITE!
Yes, send me to hell right now. Subsitute 'product' for 'model' and it might be easier to understand! After all, it's not much different to building a database showing off lovely looking cars or flowers or whatever.
So we basically need a system whereby we can create thumbnails and thumbnail pages from a folder of images. Then for a biog page to be created for that model with links to her photo & video sets (text on this page added from text fields in CMS system). Then for the model to be added to an A-Z directory, and finally a search engine for model name and ahem, vital stats.
I'm sure 95% of people know exactly the database structure I'm trying to explain now! ;)
Mods, I hope this topic is okay (no links to nakers sites please folks!); it is genuinely technical advice I need!

Just got a feeling that the price you would be quoted would be doubled, I for one as a web designer wouldn't touch an adult site, plus they need to be a lot more "arty" and creative to set them apart from all the other adult sites.

Oh, just to clarify... it's for the database only. We already have a web designer in-house (cough).
The guy that was going to do it was going to code it all using non-adult material and we are then going to design the site and populate it.
