After being throroughly let down by Bulldog (took my BT phone line without permission, cut me off completely before BT took the phone back, refuse to put me back on the non phone package I had before - grrr, now I have no internet, no phone and it will obviously cost me to set it all up again rather than getting a mac address) I need to fond another provider.

I've sped through the posts both on here and on ADSL guide but still need more info. Mainly - are there ANY good 4MB plus broadband retailers out there? Everyone seems to have problems with UK Online or F2S. Does anyone have any good experiences with such suppliers?

Really need to make a decision today as I try to work from home one day a week - but that's out until I get Internet back... :help:

Zen Internet (http://www.zenadsl.com/) are suppose to be quite good (won a PC Pro award thing), although they only go upto 2Mb.

Yes, I've seen that Zen are quiter good, but a wee bit too slow (for me, anyway). Are Wannado any good? Or blueyonder?

You can get Blueyonder & your asking for a good provider :?:

Voted best provider for the last 2 years I believe.

Actually - I can't get telewest just yet - some issue with getting cable to my flat even though my road gets it.

Might actually go for Zen. Work will pay for part of it - so I can always trial it for a few months and transfer to telewest/blueyonder later if I'm unhappy with the speed. Loking around, I just can't seem to find a high speed provider that doesn't cap or doesn't have severe CS/traffic shaping problems.

For what it's worth, I'm with UKOnline and have their 8mb/s service. I've had it since last October and it's been really good. Previously I was with a smaller local business ISP and the service was clearly much better in terms of available CS, redundent backups and so on but to get 8mb/s with the old ISP would have cost me major expense. UKOnline offer 8mb/s for £25 now and that's a pretty good deal in my opinion. Essentially, I'd pick UKO of the 8mb/s ADSL service or Telewest for the 10mb/s cable service if I had access to either. They seem to be the best providers in my area. (Admittedly, I live on top of the Waverley exchange so ADSL speed flies and Edinburgh is one of Telewest's strongest areas as far as service quality goes.)

I'm keen to dabble my foot into the 22mb/s ADSL/2+ pond at some point and UKO are one of the few companies offering this. Mind, I'm holding off until such a time as they drop the mandatory requirement to buy their chosen ADSL/2+ router in order to get the service. I already have an exceptional router from Ozenda which is ADSL/2+ compatible. The requirement to buy their router suggests one of two possibilities...

1: They're gouging the new customers with whatever hefty markup they can get from shifting those routers.

2: Their ADSL/2+ service is not fully de-kinked yet and can't be expected to work with any other ADSL/2+ router.

My money is on the former.

All the best and good luck!

Have decided to definitely go with Zen - as I need to get online asap. Will probably rethink this in a few months - but should do me for the moment.

Have nothing but evil thoughts for Bulldog. Astonishingly bad service...
