I've got a Tosh Sd2109 player and am in the process of upgrading from PL to DD5.1/DTS
I'm running a coax from the digital output on the player to the receiver (Marantz SR4200)
All works well until I try to get DTS working.
Both the receiver and the player are meant to be DTS capable, but when I select the DTS soundtrack on a disc (Gladiator in this case) The player displays the message 'requires DTS decoder' on the screen then reverts back to DD5.1. I've tried fiddling with the audio output options and this doesn't make any difference. I assume it should be set to Bitstream output?
Close examination of the DTS logos on the two bits of kit show that the one on the receiver is the usual one with Digital Surround written on it , but the one on the player says Digital Out.
Am I missing something? Why can't I get DTS output to the receiver?
when you select DTS and get the 'requires decoder' message, is this just a prompt to see if you want to continue? Is there another conformation to press on the DVD menu?
I have the 2109 and it outputs DTS to the amplifier fine. I don't have the Gladiator movie, but have used DTS lots

Once the 'requires decoder' message comes up there's no option to do anything else. It just sits there for a few seconds then the audio menu switches off.
Have I maybe got a duff Tosh?
:(
A Connection issue me thinks.
I have 2109b and if you dont have a DTS capable amp/receiver connected you get that message.
When they are connected is must be like plug and play as it works without a hitch.
Can you try another cable?

I've got in connected via a digital co-ax to the digital input on the amp using an IXOS digital coax cable.
The player also has the scart connected to the telly, which is a prologic unit and it has the stereo output connected to the CD input on the amp for music CDs. Could it be it's detecting the telly which doesn't support DTS rather than the amp that does and that's why it's not working?
Possibly.
The only way to do this test will be without the scart installed.
I use an s-video cable, so dont have exactly your setup.
Temporaily remove the scart but not before you Memorise the sequence to get the movie (Gladiator) to start in DTS and you will soon find out.
why cant things just work, eh.

Nope it's not that.
I have the same set-up. Tosh2109, connected to my Yamaha 795a via a Digital Coax. I have the Tosh connected to my Pro-Logic Philips TV via a Scart, and the Stereo output on the TV is connected to the CD input on my Yamaha.
I must have in the region of thirty odd DTS disc including Gladiator and all play with no problem at all.
To make sure you've got the correct audio track, press the audio button on the dvd remote while the film is playing and you should get a display 'DTS 6ch - requires DTS decoder' If thats ok can you tell us what's on the amp's display

when you say it reverts to 5.1 are you hearing any sound at this stage? if so you're getting DTS.
If there's no sound then the amp could be set to the wrong input. ?

I've got the analogue output from the player plugged into the CD input on the amp and the digital out plugged into the DVD digital in, so that I can set the amp up for music under the CD settings and DVDs under the DVD settings. I figured I wouldn't have to fiddle with the surround settings if I did that.
Could this be the problem?
The strange thing is that the amp is set to DVD digital input, with DTS selected.
Thanks to all for the advice. I'm going to have a serious fiddle when I get home tonight.
I suspect I could be suffering newbie syndrome here. ;)

That might possibly be it because I do not have the Stereo Phono connections hooked up on mine, only the Digital Co-ax.
Can still play CD's on it alright though.

No, it can't be that, I have a Tosh 2109 plugged into a Yamaha 795a too, with both the digital connection and the analogue connections in place. It plays DTS discs perfectly.
Ensure you have the Audio output stream set to Bitstream (or 2 channel) when playing DTS material on the Tosh, as it won't output when set tp PCM mode.
As far as the disc your using, Gladiator, I'm pretty sure it's one of those discs where you can only change audio track by returning to the menus, not by pushing the audio button when it's playing. Perhaps that's causing the trouble?

I was gonna suggest this too, I think this could be the prob.

I figured out the problem.
What I was doing was trying to select the DTS soundtrack by pressing the audio button on the player remote and selecting the DTS track. That gave the error.
But if I went into the menu on the disc, and went to audio options and selected the DTS track it worked ok!
Told you I was suffering newbie syndrome!
Thanks to all who helped.
