Right, I've had a little problem in this house I'm living in. My Home Cinema is upstairs in my Bed Room.

In my fuse box In my Garage I have 5 fuse sockets. 3 are used up. 1 for the lights in the house. 1 for the front mains supply and 1 for the back mains supply.

My Room is connected to the back mains supply and so is the kitchen. When an electrical device such as a Washing Machine, Kettle, Vacum Cleaner or Microwave is turned on, I get an annoying flicker in my TV. This only happens when using 60Hz. The more devices that are on, the worse it is.

Does anyone know why this is happening? If I use those devices and plug them into the front part of the house (uses a different fuse) then it does not affect the TV.

The same problem happens on my PC monitor too (when running higher than 60Hz)

Firstly, Why does it do it and secondly is it easy to run my room of on its own fuse.

If an electrician is here, it would be of great help. So a Q for an Electrician or somebody who knows. Is it a simple job to connect my Room to its own fuse?

Thanks

Gareth

What you are getting is mains noise from the electrical equipment in yor kitchen, you have basically two options,

1) Is to run a direct mains spur from the fuse box to your room, I would strongly recommend you get a qualified electrician to do this.(I have no idea how much this would cost)

2)You could try & clear up the mains supply using specialist product such as those from here (www.russandrews.com)
though I would recommend you get a quote from an electrician about option 1 first.

Thanks for the help. Question though, how comes the mains noise only shows up on 60Hz or above?

Its also strange, if I plug the hoover or similar into the plug socket in my room, it has no affect.

Thanks again for the help :)

As to why only 60Hz, to be perfectly honest, I don't know, at a guess, I would say that probably your TV is more sensitive to the mains noise when in this mode.

The Hoover thing could be that the socket that the TV is plugged into is before the one you plug the hoover in on the mains line, so there for doesn't mess with the TV .

I never hear anyone else having this problem. I blame those cowboy electricians when they built my house. ************!
