Looking on Play247 at the Region1 and Region2 info.

I understand Region1 has the extra Disk and DTS, but does it have as much extra's on it ?

In the description there sounds like there's more stuff on the R2 version....
Does the R1 version have the characters singing pop music for example as one of the extra's ?

What's the R2 1.66:1 to the R1 1.77:1 all about ?

What about quality loss cos it's not PAL ?

I want the best picture..

Get the R1 - 2 Disc set with loads more extras, about 11 hours of extras I think! whereas the r2 has about 5?? Not sure, but I do know the R1 is far far superior :)

The thing is, My whole thing about a film like this is Image Quality.
As it is a direct transfer from Computers to DVD data (not from film) you are getting the best image quality possible.

So is it worth getting the R1 disk, rather than the R2 PAL version, which most seem to say has the edge in image quality, for soem extra's which may(or may not) actually add to the enjoyment of the film.

Just wondering.

R2 will have the edge, but it's so slight so as not to be really noticeable. At the end of the day, it's up to you and your wallet. R1 has the DTS track, and a superb picture which for me is more than adequate. :D

Or get the PAL R4 from one of the ozzie etailers for around 11squid inc. posting.

Sweet.

Not seen the extras on the R1 myself, but I read somewhere (may have been Rewind) that most of the R1 extra extras are more for youngsters and DVDROM.

Region 1.If you are not that bothered about the extras then go for the region 4.

I think some people are still under the illusion that because R2 (or R4 for that matter) has a PAL picture, it has to be better than R1 with it's NTSC picture. A good anamorphic print is what it says, and I think most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between PAL or NTSC with newer movies, more so with animated titles like Shrek which were no doubt direct digital copies for the master discs.

The only reason to go with R2/R4 over R1 is price. If you want to pay less, go for R4, or R2 if need to (but not necessarily cheaper). If you want features, quality and a decent price, order the R1 edition. It's the best edition available anywhere.

In the case of animation, Im sure there's a reason why the PAL transfer is better than the NTSC as someone else noted with the release of the simpsons.

I was of under the impression that it depended on the way the source material was transferred? Given that most TV series come from NTSC masters, doesn't the conversion to PAL inevitably sacrifice some element of the PAL/NTSC advantage in terms of resolution?

Could many of us tell the difference if presented with an NTSC picture and it's PAL equivalent side by side? I'd heard many disparaging comments regarding the quality of US TV before going there last September, but I have to say, couldn't see what people were moaning about.

Shrek would have been produced from a digital source, so I'd imagine the PAL/NTSC difference would be less evident, even to the trained eye.

Well I sold my R1 SHREK & got the R4.

IMHO there is little to choose between the DD & DTS tracks & most of the the additional extras meant nothing to me.However I do like the PAL transfer more than the NTSC one though the NTSC one is fine in itself.

Bet this is of no help whatsoever !! :D
