Written on the Wind - Wednesday 2 January, 10:40am, Channel 4.
Just trust me on this. I'll be reviewing Criterion's disc soon.
Yeah, there's gonna be a big dent worn into the cushion under my derrier this Christmas.
But where is 'It's a Wonderful Life?'
Bit of a tradition to watch this on Chrismas Eve.
And no Bond? Bah humbug.
Still, I look forward to watching Twelve Monkeys (the missus hates this film with a passion), The Wicker Man and The Nightmare before Christmas being my pick of the films listed.
Wonder if Young Sherlock will be good as I seem to remember enjoying this when I first saw it?

BBC Choice are showing a load of horror flicks over the coming weeks - such as Halloween, Dawn of the Dead and Evil Dead 2.

Really! It's not even on TCM! I want It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Wiz of OZ! Looks like I'll be searching for a few more DVDs this week...

Best Xmas viewing I remember was the year Jonathan Ross hosted a Jackie Chan every night for a week. At the time it was my first encounter with the Chanster and I was blown away by Police Story, Armour of God, Wheels on Meals, Project A.
Ahhhh.... happy days...

The problem with good films on ITV/Ch 5,is that they are not in widescreen,or it is barely greater than 1:33:1.The 'Wizard of Oz' is on TCM by the way.

...and they have a nasty habit of putting the news in the middle, someting the BBC have cottoned on to lately:mad:
Not bad viewing this year, but where's the Tarzan season (the old B&W Johnny Weismuller one's) or the Flash Gordon serial on every morning? Used to look forward to these:(
I don't want to hijack the thread but do you know if C4 are going to show any anime during christmas? They usally show a couple of jap anime movies over the holiday's. If fact, it's been an absolute age since they had any kind of anime season on C4, any word on weather they'll have another one??

I'm glad I taped it last year then! Can't believe I haven't seen it yet - taped it but didn't get a chance to watch it over the holiday so I saved it for this Christmas. Going on my pile of 'must watch' films along with Muppet Christmas Carol and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

I noticed that C4 are showing the excellent seasonal epic that is Draindead on Chistmas Day... 1.40 in the morning mind (...so technically Boxing Day for all you pedants out there :))

I may be missing something here but why are people so interested in what is on TV at Christmas. This is a DVD forum and surely we have got into DVD because we don't want to bother with the films that are transmitted in butchered, wrong ratio, interrupted by news etc etc etc.
Most of the movies are on DVD anyway so why not watch them in the superior format ?
I understand that many people will not have seen some of the films on offer and this may prompt them to invest in the DVD in future - there are some classic films on in the next few weeks but none of them will be improved by watching them on TV.

Exactly! And by the time I finish eating I'll be around the same shape and weight too........mmm Cranberries.....
Kevin Harper - the reason people enthuse over some of the films shown over Christmas is because;
a) They show LOADS of films over the holidays
b) No-one can afford to buy EVERY half decent film available on DVD and some are NOT available on DVD
c) Tradition ie Bond at Christmas, The Great Escape, It's a Wonderful Life - remember back when there were 3 channels and no vcr's you HAD to watch whatever big film the TV channels put on
d) We're all too stuffed to get of the couch to stick a DVD in the player!
