Just wondered if anyone has any information on a date for a retail version of The Hole (any region) - it seems like it's been ages, and I can't find *any* info.
I know it's available to rent in the UK and there's a rental window, but I can't even find an ex-rental copy!

Shame Pathe won't put out the uncut version.
Even though the director wanted to release it.
It previewed in four variations, uncut which could have had an 18, cut, cut again & finally recut for a 15cert.

I can answer my own question here - www.play.com have it for pre-order, R2 for a princely £14 with deleted scenes, commentary et al... I think it's early March. Yay.
cool, but Daliah Lavi, says the DVD is cut in the uk, though the BBFC doesnt list any of these cuts.

That surpised me too, I now know the BBFC don't always list info on every movie cut for certificate.
Due to my close friend having worked on the movie, I had to view the finished thing four times. It was fasinating being privy to the pathetic excuses of the BBFC for cutting certain scenes for a 15.

Regardless of what was cut by the censors, IMHO I don't think there's much could be added to this movie to alleviate the feeling of it being sub-standard script rejected from some dull as dishwasher ITV drama.

What was the movie like - haven't seen but the guy who wrote the book was in the year above at school with me eons ago.

I personally thought it was ok, with a great performance by Thora Birch, some errie widescreen photography, great sound design most of which is lost on home video/dvd no matter who fab your system is! & a nice little twist in it's tail.
Nothing ground-breaking but an entertaining 2hrs or so.

I really enjoyed it - went in with no expectations, and found it a pleasant evening out, as did my mate who I saw it with. For this price, it's definitely a keeper, and it'll be nice to see the deleted scenes etc... plus Thora Birch manages a decent English accent! ;)
Incidentally, wasn't there some kind of furore over nudity in this film - a girl being a bit on the young side or something? Was that cut or kept for the DVD/VHS releases? Or am I imagining it?

Nothing was cut due to under age nudity, in fact there was never any nudity in the movie!?!
SPOILERS!
The four main problems for our beloved BBFC were,
1, the seduction scene
2, a head being smashed
3, the use of the C word, twice
4, an inpalement
The movie played really well in it's original cut & everyone involved loathed to see that harder footage go, despite what some say, it changed the whole tone of the movie.

I think that might have been American Beauty as Thora Birch was pretty young when she did the topless scene in that.

The export version was prepaired from the cut down UK print, there is no longer version out there, at this time.
The director did want to restore the footage but Pathe weren't interested, for various reasons.
