With Rewind down and MichaelDvd not yet having a comparison, with the obvious exception of price, how does the R1 Buffy S1 (jan 2002 release) compare to the R2 / R4 versions.

Amazon.com have the specs up now and comparing them to the R2 copy I have at home it seems like there is no difference at all except for the packaging.

The only Buffys I'll wait for in R1 are are the ones after Series 3 in the hope that they'll be released in Widescreen, which is as they are broadcast in the States I've been told.

Seasons 4 onwards of Buffy are going to be released in widescreen in both R2 and R4, so waiting for the R1 editions wouldn't be worth it, apart from probably being cheaper.

Ceravo - Do you know for certain that they are going to be released in widescreen? It's just that Angel S1 was broadcast in WS in the USA and was still released in full frame here, so why wouldn't they do the same with Buffy?

Have you seen somewhere that's shown the specs for the season 4 release already?

Thanks,
S.

Angel S1 was not shown in widescreen in the USA, or indeed anywhere else in the world, hence the lack of widescreen transfers for them to use. Now if only the BBC had got the rights to Angel as well as Buffy, because then they would have shown it in widescreen, like they did with Buffy S4, so a widescreen transfer would have existed for them to do the DVD from.
