Irritating Windows problem

This is probably easily solved but I'm struggling to find how.
When I open a link in a new window it always opens in a little window like this;

It's begining to bug me, help please :help:

Ok, close all maximised windows but one, make that normal size that you want new ones to open up at, then close that window and now all new windows should get that size (note it cannot be maximised though)
