Evening all.

A quick question...

I'm interested in doing some night/indoor photography that will obviously require the use of a flash. Thing is that I don't really want the full on in your face kind of thing.

So, here's the question...if I get a flash unit is there a affordable way to connect the flash to a camera via a cable (pre-made or DIY) so that the flash can be aimed side on/below/above the target?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Firstly, what's your weapon of choice?

You can buy off camera flash cables for most SLR type cameras. Usually about £30 from Ebay I find.

Radiohead - I was hoping nobody was going to ask that so that I didn't alienate myself with the answer!

I use a few different cameras...

Lomo LC-A
Diana
Fujipet
Coronet 4-4

...and I wasn't sure what kind of flash to buy as the Lomo is the only one with a classic hot shoe. The fujipet has a flash shoe but unlike any I've seen before. It has a small connector for connection to a lead.

I guess I was going to start with the Lomo and then maybe trigger the flash manually (off camera) with the other cameras on bulb. Make sense?

Dave B - Cheers, just had a look. How come they're so expensive? Seems a lot of money for a cable and a couple of connectors.

Try a difuser on the flash or bounce the light of a reflective surface

Or buy some natural light bulbs from here and don't use a flash at all.
