View Full Version : Sub Woofer Problem
I have a Yamaha RX620 RDS and have just purchased a Kef PSW 1000 Sub Woofer. The problem is that eveytime i change inputs (eg from DVD player to CD player) or when i flick through the chapters of a DVD (but not the tracks on a CD) I get this increadibly loud thud. Has any one any suggestions to what it could be?? Should i take the sub back??
Is this an "automatic power on" sub? I.e. is it normally in standby, but switches itself on when it detects a signal? If so, your problem may well lie with a defective power on detector in the sub.
I've got the same receiver with a Paradigm sub (also auto power on) and don't get any problems.

Could very well be what Neon suggests, double check your connections, if that does not cure the problem consult with your dealer.
Sorry about this - not trying to hijack the thread but i also have a sub query.
just wired my system up on Saturday (active sub) is it normal to have a low level hum coming from this at all times. Not very loud but one of those sounds that once you've picked up on it its all you can concentrate on (if that makes sense)
Cheers
i have the psw1000 sub also. - it has a setting to "go to sleep" after 40mins of non use, so it maybe just waking up which is causing the thud. You can turn this "feature" off. You may have the gain set to high on it also.
i have a problem with mine atm, where its picking up what appears to be mains interferance through the cable linking it to the amp. (pioneer 859). This wasnt happening when i first set it all up. Maybe my xmas tree (which the sub is hiding behind) is causing it?! I have a very nice 20quid sub-amp lead so its not that!

Turbo,
You may have a ground loop problem, try disconnecting the earth lead inside the mains plug for the sub. That may sort out your hum.

I think this is a common problem. My Paradigm does this also.
