View Full Version : Looking for cheap 5.1 setup for 360 and DVD, any recommendations please?
As title really, would like a cheap, small, unobtrusive 5.1 setup for my 360, something that won't annoy the neighbours or the girlfriend! I have a Premium with component connections, and optical output, so would ideally like to connect with this, and also connect my Yamada DVX6600 to it, which I believe has SPDIF digital output? Thanks.

I got a LG LHA2000 a few months back and it only cost me £50 from Richer Sounds. Not sure if they still have any or if there are any around anywhere but its been a decent piece of kit. It has an optical and coaxial digital inputs plus L&R analogue. DTS,Dolby Digital and Pro Logic 2 decoders too. Its been spot on for my gaming and DVD viewing pleasure.... :)
Thanks mate, none shown online, but will give them a ring tomorrow, see what they've got.

I've been looking at that one too, and it's even better for me, as I've got loads of vouchers to spend! If you'd recommend it, I might just get one?

I would recommend it if i was allowed - but i just got black booked for even veering near the subject. So i won't.
Anyone else got anything they're allowed to recommend? Cheers.
The acoustic solutions one looks good but it's hardly unobtrusive as the active sub is quite large. I'm also in the market for an unobtrusive 5.1 setup for the living room so will be watching this thread with interest. :)
me too. do these things exist with integrated amps so i can just plug the 360 directly into the speakers??
Quite a while back I got a Sony HTK-250 (in fact I think quite a few forumites did at the time) from Empire Direct (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=137&a=60823&g=19373) It's a really neat small system with good sound DTS etc via optical input and was an award winner in one of the hi-fi mags at the time. It works really well with my Xbox. It's now been superceeded but it's replacements such as the £139.97 HTDDW670 (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=137&a=60823&g=19373&url=http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~SON-HTDDW670~dt~Home+Theatre~st~Home+Theatre+Systems~make~Sony.htm) or the £154.44 HTSS600 (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=137&a=60823&g=19373&url=http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/Content/Products/Details/index~modelcode~SON-HTSS600.htm) both in the Empire Direct (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=137&a=60823&g=19373) sale might be worth a look.

Yes they do...im looking for a suitable one also..
Logitech X-530
Slight update, probably going for something a little different now, fairly discrete speakers, shame about the amp!!! Click me! (http://www.yamaha-uk.com/av_packages/?product_id=67)
It's about the cheapest thing I can find with 2 optical inputs, and has the benefit (for me) of component switching as I only have 1 set on my TV, and would like 1 for my 360, and 1 for my DVD player.

don't let just one optical input put you off a system - you can buy an optical switch for seven quid off ebay to allow you to connect upto 3 optical devices to one socket....
eBay (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-582776-9479574?loc=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-WAY-OPTICAL-SELECTOR-SWITCH-TOSlink-DVD-XBOX-PS2_W0QQitemZ5848680815QQcategoryZ96942QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Very true, I'd already looked at them on TVCables (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=17278&merchantID=415&programmeID=1462&mediaID=0&tracking=) and thought they looked a good idea. The main reason I'm going for the Yamaha is flexibility, it's going to be a lot more upgradeable if I ever feel the need, and there's also the advantage of being able to buy it at the Metro Centre (Lintone Audio, £200), handy when you've got 500 quid in vouchers there, so it's effectively free!!!
Got the AV57 package today, will get it set up tomorrow night and report back on 5.1 360 gaming!
anyone recommend a sub £100 5.1 system with optical input?
i just want it for my 360.
any ideas? thanks!
