raging... i went with brochure in hand this morning. took it into the nearest o2 store, the guy sounded optimistic but asked if he could show his manager- came back 5 minutes late with the brochure with the £99.99 bit scored out with black marker pen!!! told me no store in glasgow would honour it.
he was a **** of the highest order.
Gutted.....I was gonna say don't let them have it in any way possible. I think you should make a call to head office and make a complaint.

Thats out of order if you ask me, assuming your brochure was not blacked out when you went in. If their brochure doesnt have e&oe on it then they cant change what isnt theirs, ie your brochure.

Unlighty - Could I take it off your hands, if you keep the sim. Ill pay for the line rental and what you want for the phone?
That might be a goer - what are you offering in total?
I've decided that Im going to bring mine back to the shop!
Couldnt be bothered with it, its next to impossible to use as a phone!
I'll give you £100 for it + the line rental for the year
dombards
06-01-2006, 11:41
9 x 12 = £108 for the line rental
£99 for the phone
= £208 and what ever you want on top?
Plus if you traded in a old phone you will get a bonus £50 in 28 days from O2
£1 /MB over the 5mb allowance. I use googlemail over gprs/3g on it and it recognises you are on a mobile device and sends it as text only. Would have to use it a lot to get to the 5mb limit using it.
does anyone know if these Data 5 sims can accept calls???
cheers, dan

Probably just going to return it to the shop, or sell it for about £330 inc.

I was told manchester fort would have some execs in today and I was in Tuesday and was told they would honour the price today (friday) if I came back, but I ended up getting one from the Trafford Center.
Might be worth a bash, I spoke to an Asian Guy but I cant remember his name, and he did check with his manager that it would be alright to do on friday, but it seems O2 are taking a stand on it. I would give it a try though and just blag that you were told to come back today......
Good luck

Dombards,
No stock at store on Cross street (stock back on Tuesday next week). The manager of Arndale centre shop (Elio) is very nice and would honour the offer easily (he told me he would get one for his mom when I showed him the offer :D). You could give them a ring to check the stock before you get there.
Good luck

Just tried both stores in manchester and both are out of stock, Trafford centre have 11 but they will not honour the deal, if though other store are still doing so they will not. Looks like if you havent got one by now then your not getting one. :brickwall

popped back into the branch i got my fone from as they only offered me 0.01 for the trade in.
this is incorrect, it WILL appear at a penny but the rebate will be for the full 50 quid. i hope! (let u know if/when i get cheque)
spoke to the manager the nite be4 and he seemed more than willing to accept the fone which was amazing as he was turning me down when i went for the contract!
anyhows, as i popped in they got a lackey.sorry. worker sticking labels on the sale booklets so i reckon if you dont have an unmarked catalogue, you won't get one sat morn...
i managed to grab one while the muppet's back was turned though so PM if anyone wants to try their luck...
i will most prob be selling my fone as well as the imate jam i have now is a lot more convenient to carry around...
can't argue with a bargain though!
p.s. i don't think they will be honoring the deal in the branch i went to again. just a heads up it was the high holborn branch just outside holborn tube station.
Guys before selling them on
try and install the vga hack and then use the opera browser it may change your minds :D
mine is now my new laptop as it can run citrix and terminal services hehe
try it out and see!!!

Hi all,
just to let you know my £50 trade in cheque arrived today from a company called fonebak.
There is a list of T+Cs at the bottom and amonst others these include that the phone should be working (and they say they will test it) and that you are limited to 3 trade-ins per 12 month period per household.

I ordered mine on the same day the bargain was posted - 29th December 05.
Pretty good service....
(actually the cheque arrived at the same time as the response from O2 Business Customer Services - and I quote:

Hi
I can access XP pro machines with remote desktop connection active. Just use the terminal services client you get with the handset and put in the IP
Might be worth reducing your firewall settings ?
with the vga mod running its dead easy to use!!

Muahaha - I love it - and like I said I've got the Dell X50V, Sony P900 Phone, and now this .. gonna sell me P900 and keep Dell for gaming and Exec as a laptop !!!
Also Opera 8.5 is out (not really for this phone, but its compatible anyway and I went  after browsing sites - rips the pants off Pocket IE - that's all I can say. You will find all the details on forum.xda-developers.com in the opera 8.5 thread and how to ahem... enable it so that you can use it on any windows mobile 5.0... dont forget to map the buttons and other nice bits in the opera.ini and input.ini)
yes they can, both the data 5's can but only with something enabled you can make calls on one of the data 5's
Could anybody tell me how to get voice calls enabled on the Data 5 tariff?
I tried ringing O2 customer service, (without being too explicit) saying I couldn't make voice calls on XDA, with Data 5 tariff.
A helpful man checked, did a sim update and said try in a few hours (said he couldn't see anything wrong though). No difference. I rang again and was told to head to the shop.
The shop assistant started saying that having the data tariff only would not allow voice calls, until I showed him a print out from O2's website, which showed the call rates for data tariff voice calls.
He then agreed to give a replacement SIM, told to wait a day for transfer and retry...still no voice!
Any tips what to ask for? and the best way to get it? :help:
Thanks

i tried yesterday to get the 50 quid trade in. Went back to the store, wouldnt have any of it. They said they'd have to cancel my original transacition and do a new one. I then asked can I still have the phone at the original price. THe answer was no way.
Still a bit annoyed about missing out on the 50 quid trade in. Still not too sure about keeping this phone. hmmm.
Opera is very good on it though.

You just need to ask for the Data Centric option/version of the Data 5 tariif. It then enables calls out.

Rather than return it do another forumite a favour. If you fancy selling I'll buy it off you at cost plus a little extra.
BTW - That's
9 x 12 = £108 for the line rental
£99 for the phone
= £207 and what ever you want on top to cover postage, time, etc.
Just been to the Nottingham store. They weren't having any of it, they have updated their brouchers to say £149.99 on any business contract over £30. They also tried to fob me off about needing headed paper although I did shut them up about that by pointing out the website! Bunch of idiots in that store, anyway just a heads up if you are planning on getting one from Nottingham.
In the end I got one from MobileShop as they have it for £99.99 and my work will pay for my contract :)
Here's what the stickered brochures now say.
XDA Exec is:
- free on any tariff of £60 and above.
- £149.99 on any tariff of £30 and above.
- £229.99 on all other tariffs.
Ouch.
Those prices were in the brochure on anothger page, i guess it wa sa true printing error and not just stupidity. shame, i did not get one as i kept dithering if i had a use for it, and now i want one real bad.

alob, i got a brochure if you wanna try ? I'll send it tomorrow :)
You're right, Page 12 of the brochure does indeed have those prices, hadn't noticed that before.
Nobody online is doing a data-only tariff with this phone, they're all (O2, CPW, OSPS etc) insisting on £25+ voice tariffs and then making you buy data bolt ons at either £1.50 or £3 per mb. This is stupid, there must be loads of people who have a perfectly good small phone for their voice calls and would only ever want a data only contract on their PDA, no point in having two voice contracts.
Think I'll stick to using my 2 year old PDA and hooking it up to the net via bluetooth to my K750i, that is on CPW and they don't seem to ever charge for gprs usage.
Another option (though not as cheap) :suspect:
Go to o2 online > business users > select xda exec (£130) > add Handset tariff (£16.50 per month, but does include 100 anytime xnet mins) works out to
£130 xda exec
£16.50x 12 = £198
£328 in total, still about half the price for handset only, but with 100 mins per month

Thanks very much to those offering me brochures, as it happened, one phone call and a swift drive down to Bournemouth store nabbed me an XDA Exec with the £50 trade-in on my old LG 8210 with a cracked screen! Lovely!

I just did that, (after help from people on here). I went to the shop and asked for my 5MB data tariff to be changed to a data-centric tariff (same price).
The guy at the shop was really helpful (Moh at the Trafford Centre, Manchester), although he did have to cancel my present contract and reissue a new one (new number).
I've tried the phone and I can now make calls (at 25p a minute).
One brick like phone here I come  Now to fill it up with gunk.

Just managed to get an Exec from the Oldham store :D but TBH with the amount of messing and phonecalls it took I'd be very suprised if anyone else manages to now.
I've been in 3 times since since last thurs pestering one of the guys to honour the deal but had to wait for new stock before I could get him to finally agree. But I was so stunned they finally agreed I forgot to do the trade-in till it was too late :( so missed the extra discount. I wasn't gonna push my luck insisting they re-do it all.
They insisted on taking the brochure off me afterwards though, but it was just one of their "fixed" ones with the sticker taken off again

to be honest, I doubt O2 are losing out on this deal. THe value of the phones has dipped considerably since the end of last month, and I would think you can probably get an offline version in a couple of months for a similar price to this O2 'deal'

I'm pretty sure they would be very close to losing out on this deal (I certainly doubt that they make any profit) and I don't think this kind of hardware (Windows Mobile 5/VGA screen/keyboard/3G/Wifi etc) would be available offline at this sort of price any time soon when you consider that the equivalent Dell Axim (which lacks a keyboard and built in phone/3G) costs more than £250. Looking back on it I'm pretty sure this was a pricing error rather than a genuine deal.

I'm sure they are losing out on each individual XDA sale in the last two weeks - but in the bigger picture they're not. Some guy in my office got one of these (not me :() as a result of this deal and all the other gadget freaks and email addicts are checking it out and looking like buying one, even at the regular price. Accident or not, it's been a great way for O2 to get a load of these out there and in the hands of people that want them and will use them, ahead of Vodafone etc ... plus of course you may up your data tariff or go for another year's worth etc. Overall I think they win, just wish I'd got my act together and got one.
Thank you tigasefi for sending me the brochure :D.
anyone got a spare brochure and know if this will work in hull?

Has anyone tried in Bristol yet?
Yep, the Galleries were fine with it (albeit at the start date of this bargain) although I didnt have my trade-in with me at the time so ended up going to a different store...

Galleries and Bath are now NOT doing the deal (told by H/O apparently), a friend just tried and failed.
I used Bath a week ago and they where great so they may still be flexible if you have the right brochure. Ring them 1st maybe?

Been in the trafford centre on tonite, the brochures are on the shelves with no alterations but the guy said they won't honour it anymore. No probs having the XDA Mini S on that tariff though which is the one my mate fancies anyway

Nixdorfer - do you mean they will still do the XDA Mini S for £79.99 with the £30 trade in and for £9 per month data 5 contract at the trafford centre? If so I'm off there.

thats right, its not a special deal or anything as the XDA Mini is that price normally in the book on any tariff under £45/month so the Data 5 qualifies. The guy was happy to sell us one and even advised us its the cheapest way to get the phone. My mate just wanted to try one out before he decided so may call back tomorrow for one. They said they had about 20 in stock at the time.
Sorry never knew that!

 to the OP! Never thought I stood a chance after so many days/weeks passed since o2 pulled the plug on these... Went into the Aylesbury shop today and there was a whole stack of brochures. And what do you know, no sticker, no modifications to the misprint. So I took a deep breath and approached the salesbod to start the negotiations :)
An hour later I walked out with one XDA Exec on the Data 5 tariff :D. The store manager wasnt a happy bud after he first told me he couldn't honour it, then told me to call o2 CS, after which he dissappeared to the backroom where he phoned HQ. And they told him to honour it :D. 5 mins later and all the brochures were being 'manhandled' by a black biro to cross out the misprint.
Result!

Quinten you must of walked in there after me.. lol I also got a brouchure but the sales assistant was busy so didnt have time to wait about..
Do you know if they had a few in stock ? I am going to pop in there tomorrow and try my luck, hopefully the store manager will still honour the deal.
Cheers

Pretty sure they have stock left, but I suspect you're going to have a nice battle on your hands with the manager ;) Keep persisting though

Nah, there was no problem. Just asked the guy for the Exec on the data tariff pointed and to it in the book. He went away into the store room came back and said,
"Are you aware that there will be a charge £99.99 for the exec."
Maybe they stopped it pretty soon after i got it....did you try the one in the whitgift centre or outside? I got mine from the whitgift centre.
Well i got my exec on friday from wandsworth arndale shopping centre south side. Had to give all my best to bargain with the manager to get one. Finally she gave in at 119.99 with trade-in for data 5 plan. It's a step-up from my Dell Axim x30 thats for sure, just like a mini laptop
Sam
Tried this on O2 Solihull. They said it would be £229.99, but they would accept a £50 trade in, making it £179.99. I was pretty annoyed since I had come in-store on Sunday and the girl I spoke to said that it would be £99.99. It's just 'On Sundays, we can't connect people to Data Tariffs'.
Because of all my 'hassle', they agreed to throw in a bluetooth headset as well. I asked for a Jabra one, but they refused, saying that they don't make any profit on those (yeh, that makes sense! :cuckoo: ) and that they could offer me one of those cheap O2 Bluetooth headsets. Slightly annoyed because I genuinely wanted one for business (now I bet someone's going to see that if I really wanted one, I would have paid the extra!). Ah well; maybe next time...

I have to say Bournemouth o2 shop sorted me right out...I've had 3 now at £99.99, with £50 trade-ins, and no need to show a voucher or anything. It was in my company name, otherwise they were quoting £129.99 before trade-in.
Get in there!
I also got a mini and received the cheque this morning, but in the shop I was told that it would be £50. Rang up the people who issued the cheque and they advised they will send out a cheque for £20. But as I got a exec as well they asked me if I had received a £50 cheque already advised that I hadnt yet but was expecting it she advised it was posted yesterday. Then told me the £20 cheque will be sent out also.
Hi mate,
Do you have their number as the manager who I got my xda exec from said that I will only get 20 quid from my trade-in phone :( , but looks like I am suppose to get full £50 independent of the trade-in phone. So will give them a call before they send the cheque

Ive not got it on me right now but ill have a look when I get home, I received the extra £20 cheque along with another £50 for the exec at the same time. I got the number of the slip that came with the cheque so anybody should be able to give you the number if they have it with them.

Well they should do as they have issued a deal for January and they should honour it.
I tried today with my uncle and they seem to think they have withdrawn the data 5 tarrif, guess when!? As of yesterday. We were in the shop as of 9am this morning.
Im going to try Hemel as I did get 4 in there before with my mate. They seem to be better people in there anyway!
Same here. Got told the data 5 tarrif had been discontinued as a standalone tarrif. Can only be bought as an add on.

It still shows on their web site as a stand alone tarrif, but there's no way of selecting a data tarrif in their shop as far as I can find.

well im currently on hold with 02 customer services and they dont even seem to know that you can get calls on this tarrif! I had to tell them and they are still unsure. Turns out that its an online tarrif and you have to get it enabled in store! Crazy!
As for the data only tarrif, I have asked her if I could go into an O2 store later and get a mini s on a data 5 contract. She saw no problem with that. Im going to try later and get one, and if they let me my uncle is going to have a field day as he is off to the OFT about this because they reckon they have stopped the tarrif altogether. It will now sound like they are trying to renenge on a deal they have offered. I hope he gets somewhere. Bit poor if they give it to some people and not others. Its their mistake and they surely ought to honour it for the month they have said its on for.

Was on the phone to O2 CS yesterday...
I was told data 5 is a tariff that must be selected in store and also I had confirmation that ITS A STANDALONE tariff !
When you're getting more than one, do you open a contract for each one or are you just adding another handset to the business account ?
Did they not ask any questions about this ?
one for me and one for the OH would be nice.
Gonna head into town later and give this a try, I have the name and extension of the person I spoke to and also printed the stuff from the website so hopefully that should help a little ;)

Why did you want 4 for and you buying even more..? LOL
I didnt have enough handsets and it was my mate that bought 4. Actually he got two and his girlfriend got two as well. I only ever got the one because I actually wanted the handset for a few months now. And now I have it. I think its plain to see he wanted it to make a profit on ebay and did exactly that. He sold the handsets for over £350 so make a good £200 on each phone. I told him he would want one and he ended up keeping one and selling his iPAQ which was 2 years old and sold it for a tenner more than he got it for! He works for natwest so can get some stuff cheap!
My Dad got one because he wanted it for Tom Tom and my uncle wants it because he wants it for that and also for the odd email and browsing. And being as it all pays for itself its a very good deal.
I also being the gadget freak I am wanted to get the mini s on this tarrif but I dont think Ill get anywhere in Watford now for a while after my uncles performance. If you were to use the phrase more than one way of skinning a cat, lets just say I would have done it another way!

Did the CS rep state that you were entitlted to the offer and that the stores should honour it.
If so any chance of their contact info
Also how did you get on any luck.
I want to get one but don't want to go back to a store that I have already tried without concrete backup info and head office or customer service details.

So as a last ditch attempt are there any kind forum members that have one but don't want it and would like to point it in my direction for the price they paid plus a little extra.
