View Full Version : Which DVD player for around £100? (PLEASE HELP)
Hello there!
My brother has decided he wants a multi region hackable DVD player for Christmas... And I can only spend about £100. Can anybody help me with a reccomendation please?
Are there any special deals going? From Dabs, or Richer Sounds or Dixons or....?
Any help would be much appreciated :o)
Thanks muchly,
Sb
Plenty of cheapy-McCheaps around at the moment :
Tesco Dansai 852 £100
Woolies Oritron 100 £100
Richer Sounds Cyberhome ADL228 £80
Richer Sounds/WHSmith Cyberhome ADL528 £100
Safeway Reoc A3 £100
also :
Kwik Save doing one (Crown)
Netto doing one
Asda doing one (Pacific ?)
Now is a great time to get a bargain : good things been said about the Cyberhome 528, Reoc A3 and the Dansai 852.

cant speak for the others but bought a dansai, and it can be made multi region, and you can turn macrovision off very easily from the same menu, something like a four button hack,
u'll find it in here thanks to simes:

Some good reviews and testing gone on, thats what persuaded my parents to get one as they were after a budget player.
Richer Sounds are also doing the Acoustic Solutions DVD521 multiregion for £79.95

My next door neighbour has just bought the £100 cyberhome from richersounds,it has composite out onboard dts/dd decoder with 5.1 channel out so if he has or can get a cheap pro logic amp with 5.1 in a complete surround sound setup could be had for £200ish.
Ring Richersounds beforehand though as they were flying out of the manchester shops, they sold 60 in a day over the counter so it's popular.

The best one at the moment seems to be the Reoc A3 (£100 from Safeway)
Here's how 'What Hi-Fi' summed up about it:
For: Excellent sound & vision for the money; well equipped
Against: Poor CD replay - but we wouldn't expect better at this price

I think this is one of Richer Sounds regular gimmicks.Advertise a bargain that they have virtually no stock of.Then when you are in store they can try and sell you something else.
Haven't you ever wondered why these are instore only !!!! and they have always run out !!!
They even sell out of the £99 players within a couple of days of getting stock.Look on the website, i bet all the cheap players are out of stock :(
You have to fall lucky with richer sounds. At this time of year though, stuff is flying off the shelves even quicker.
Try www.whsmiths.co.uk for the £99 Cyberhome, i you are looking for it.Their stock tends to last a bit longer as they are not so well known for bargain DVD players.
I recommend the Dansai though - much better built. No inbuilt dolby digital decoder though - these are of little use to the average punter anyway unless you already have a pro-logic amp with 5 /6 channel input. If you had its unlikely you would only be spending £99 on a player (the amp would have cost considerably more than £99)
