View Full Version : Rediculously slow FTP speeds, Help please

Was just wondering if anyone can help here. Up until recently i was getting fantastic FTP speeds from my PC to my Xbox around the 10mb/s mark but now i'm lucky if i can get 300kb/s. I havent changed anything obvious on PC but i have installed a new HDD in the XBox. Can anyone think of what might be causing the slow down? Ive checked the connections and everything seems to be fine ther. This is absolutly batting my head so any help much appreciated.

when I had really slow FTP to my XBOX (~800Kbs) it stumped me for a while until I happened to replace the network card in my media server (an old 3com to a slightly newer version of the same 3com) . The ftp previously was normal.

Hey presto - 8Mbs

How happy was I that I didn't need to start a copy the night before a weekend away!

Therefore, try a new NIC - your current one might be on it's way out

I experienced the same thing a long while ago after making the same hd change mate - what are you using for an ftp server? If its evox I could understand the problem, but something remotely recent (like filezilla in xbmc) shouldnt give you any such trouble.

Also try different network settings. I have one laptop that works best at 100Mb half duplex whilst all the rest are set to 100/full.

Sorry for the delay in replying, i didnt think anyone had answered as my mail client had stuffed all notifications in the spam folder for some reason.

My PC is only a year old so i'm not sure if the NIC is out of date or anything. I am using Evox though. Ive tried the different network settings and they don't seem to be working.

Ive got XBMC installed too but i havent got a clue how to set that as my FTP server.

that being the case matey, your problem is definitely evox - depending upon your version of xbmc, the ftp server will just 'work', so there may be no need to do anything - just crank it up and see if you can connect :)

Use flashfxp to transfer. Should fix your problem.

I gave up on this a while back as i was having no joy, but i've built up quite alot of stuff i need to transfer over. I want to use the XB HDD to back-up some of the stuff on my PC.

Iv'e tried everything listed above, i.e FTPing to XBMX, tried all the the network settings and i've even updated the NIC drivers. I'm now going to try a newer version of flashfxp.

Apart from all that does anyone have any other suggestions?

Well a newer version of FlashFXP didn't do the job. I think th eonly thing left to try would be a new NIC card. ANyone selling one:D

I just bought a couple of Dlink Gigabit cards from ebuyer for my linux media server.

Someone on another forum seems to be suggesting that the new HDD is the problem because it's 5800rpm. I think the original HDD was 7200rpm. Surely that would account for a -16x drop in speed?
