Quiet Amp?

Just setup my new Yamaha amp & mission speakers to enter the wonderful world of DD & DTS. Sound quality is fantastic but it is very quiet. Have the volume set past half (display says 40db) but it is hardly shaking the walls! Is this the norm? Even my old midi system used to annoy the neighbours at half volume....

Tried DVD via optical (SPR & Matrix), a couple of CD's and SKY via the phonos, they all output at the same volume.

Any advice appreciated...

my dsp-ax620 has a dynamic range adjustment in the setup menu - maybe your amp is on a compressed range? I don't think this affects anything other than DD though. I have Mission speakers too (752 fronts and 70 surrounds) and I normally set audio to about 65-70dB when I watch TV and 50-60dB when watching DD DVDs.

have you checked that your speaker impedance switch is set correctly?
