which is the best make,
Go along to your local Currys/Comet and look at some sets. If you ask that sort of question here you'll get as many different answers as members.
Panasonic are without doubt the very best TV sets available.:D

Another Sony fan here.Tbh i cant really see past their tv's.
Y'all got it wrong............Toshiba are the best:D
Panasonic are making the best telly's at the moment.
Horses for courses,
but little to choose between Panny and Sony in my humble opinion
alot depends on budget though!!:)
I like Panasonic too - all their stuff in fact, not just TV's.
I've never liked the picture on Sony - good make but just don't suit me.
Don't touch Hitachi - used to be ok about 20 years ago but cheap rubbish now.
Oh, and I've never liked Philips stuff either - ok while it works but when it goes wrong (which it will) you might as well scrap it because it will never work properly again.
IMHO

TOSHIBA IS THE WINNER
This could rumble on for ever! The Toshs are superb for the money, Pannys have maybe the best pic but Sonys have the style!
Don't know about Tush.
Have you checked out Bush....?

Yes, I always did like a good Bush. I suppose it all depends what you want to get out of it? Take it is for DVD use or you wouldn't be in this forum!
I've got a JVC and can say that I've been pretty happy with it. Have a Thomson 242 widescreen in the bedroom and pictue and sound are superb (in reality better than the JVC). They have a 32 incher in Comet for £850.
I am in the middle of a decision on purchasing the Toshiba 36" DD5.1 system, or the Panasonic 36" DD/DTS5.1 system.
All the shops have told me to go with the Toshiba -- its far better value for money and the picture is better -- also, the only shop that told me to go for a Sony was, erm, Sony in Trafford Centre -- well, I suppose they would have to :D :D :D :D
At the moment I am the same as Marny, I have a 32" JVC which is quality, and a 24" Thomson in the bedroom which is fantastic (and only cost 199 hard earned notes!)
EDIT: Nearly the same as Marny, Marny's JVC is only a 28" Baby :p

Before you buy from a shop be aware you can get the toshiba for £500 less online.

I have a Sony 36FS70 and for picture quality I have to say the Sony has it, but the on-scree-menu system goes to Philips. More thought has gone into it.
The same goes for Philips and Sony VCRs. My brother has a Sony and you can't even programme a new recording if there is one already in progress. What good is that?

"Panasonic are making the best telly's at the moment".
I'm no expert and this will probably make you laugh but when I had a service engineer out to look at my 32" Sony I got around to asking him what tv's he thought were best makes etc. He was an old guy the kind who's been in the business for years so you'd have to value his opinion.
His thoughts were that especially with flat screen tv's with the tube being so expensive that tv makers try to keep the costs down by sacrificing on build quality and other aspects of the set.
I asked him about other models - that i was getting terribly vexed with Sony and he said that as bad as they were that "Panasonic were a complete disaster altogether".
Not my words - his - so don't shoot the messenger

Panasonic did rather shoot themselves in the foot with the early PG50's. Coming hot on the heels of its superior predecessor it disappointed a lot of dyed in the wool Panny fans. My opinion is different companies excel in different areas. For a 28 inch sub £600 set my Philips 6005 was hard to beat in its time. The 24 inch version was outselling all other 24's but the 32 inch was reported to have had its problems. I am presently looking hard at the top end Toshibas, but they seem to vary a lot in quality. IMO good ones are very good, but bad ones are out there, probably being delivered, returned and redelivered to the next unsuspecting mug as I type! Apologies to anyone who got a bad one!

Sony's do have the best pictures and TV designs. However, the Sony's suffer from a lot from a lot of Geometry faults.
