My brother is coming back from Hong Kong tomorrow with the Entire Ghibbli Collection on DVD (which no one should buy because they are illegal and against the law) .

I thought only Kiki and Totoro were available in R3.

Unless of course he's getting the bootlegs

Ghibbli Collection

I first saw it when I was out there in sept and thought it was an official release. My sis was gonna get me this and bring it for xmas as well but told her to get the OFFICIAL R3 ones instead. Heard the collection was in japanese and the subs are poor. Also something about the 'companies' burnt in logo popping up everywhere.

I do not have full internet access yet but this a quick report.

I have bought this collection for about 25 pounds and it has 12 ghibli cartoons on it ... I have not seen all of them yet but the ones I have seen the quality is very very good ... it looks like the discs are mastered from LDs.

The collection is in 1:85:1 and is in stereo. It does not contain the entire ghibli collection but it has most of thier output.

The films are in japanese and has english and chinese subtitles which are selectable.

The official R3 totoro and kiki is not available yet but is coming out very soon.

The company logo anime does pop up occasionally when watching the films but it is irregular and can be between 2 or 3 times throughout the movie.

I have seen only yesterday, totoro, laputa and princess mononoke ... I recommend the collection throughly ... I also bought the entire cowboy bepop series for under 15 pounds.

I don't know why you are all talking about bootlegs here you know they are illegal and against the boards T&C's like kanedaa said.

Why not? He's just moved back to Hong Kong, so he hasn't been around much. Welcome back Kin, but calm down on the bootlegs... but the official region 3 discs should be released now... mines seems to have been sent out yesterday and it was supposed to be out on the 11th.

Yes guys...please post carefully...the forums does not endorse the bootleg sector...and the TC's clearly define our stance! Please post in line with our TC please! :)

Don't want to get into the old piracy thing again, but now that I have the Ghibli Boxset is anyone positive that it is a bootleg?

The packaging and discs are superb and it looks authentic to me?? It even has a barcode on the back and a hologram!??

Don't look false to me.

Yes it is a bootleg 100%.

There is no legit box set available at this time.

If it looks like this:

http://home.netvigator.com/~miaou/miyaDVD.jpg

Has 6 dvd's and 11 films its a bootleg, and even if it dont it still is.

Might look like this aswell:

Put it this way - I'd wager my DVD Collection on this set being a Bootleg (and the many derivatives of it). Most of these anime bootlegs have barcodes (that usually belong to a Legit DVD and several other bootlegs - do a search in DVDProfiler or post it here). What company is it buy - guessing its Anime Cartoon International or some derivative name of that ilk. They also regularly have holograms, very nicely done packaging etc - its all to sucker in the un-knowing buyer.

Finally - Two official separate releases are now out in Hong Kong - Totoro and Kiki - both of which are in this boxset (to my knowledge) and cost the same to buy separately as a boxset containing 12 or so films....Does that make sense to you?

Didn't think so.

I had this in my hand when I was in hk (sept/oct) but decided not to buy (not cos it was bootleg though but for other reasons ;) ). I too thought it was genuine especially if ppl look at the case its in (I guess you have yours already). I am convinced it IS bootleg now after posting in this forum and also because of the pictures/labels on the actual discs. I saw it first in a shop (sham sui po) which you'll probably know is notorious for software (ahem). All they sold were anime dvds and vcds which at the time i thought were all genuine cos of the packaging and the amount and variety they had. The next time I saw it was in mong kok (in a shopping centre which also sold dvd's (ahem cough cough). The price of the set bedford posted was hk$280 which i thought was too much for bootlegs esp as mainstream movies were going for 3-5 for hk$100 (£8-9) and about a quid each in Shenzhen! It didn't even cross my mind that they were bootlegs until I posted here (not sure if kanedaa or others will remember the post) and cos I told my sister to bring back for me (I've told her to get the totoro r3 now).

I never brought any back cos I'm not that big of an anime fan (just the odd title/series here and there) but also cos I had other priorities for spending my $$$ on out there ;) :D :p

EDIT: did u expect me to write a whole para w/out a typo!!! :D
