difficult, but I'd say Sat - tv scart

DVD - Video-Tv Scart,

Record from your sat using UHF

Sat- VCR- TV
, so a scart connection doesn't matter,

& don't forget you can only record if Your DVD has Macrovision disabled, and only R2, unless you can record NTSC with your Vid

You are going to compromise picture quality on most set ups.

Given what you state, Threadkiller is correct but the UHF link will bring down quality.

Alternatively you could daisy chain into one TV scart

DVD > Sat > VCR > TV

Watch this though as all signals are likely to be composite rather than S video or RGB, thus giving a slight reduction is quality but better than UHF.

One other possible is

DVD > TV
SAT > VCR > TV

My TV allows you to designate the ouput of scart 2 so I could say its source is scart 1 and so record the DVD. Note the TV needs to be on during this opperation and it may be specific to Panny TVs as well. Threadkillers comments about Macrovision are also correct.
