View Full Version : [Xbox 360] Hard Drive corrupted?
Just dloaded new arcade game demo of Wik - completed level and was told if I bought full game I'd get achievement. Thought I'd have a go so added credits and completed purchase. Then played another 2 levels but got odd "game cannot be saved" message. Quit to dashboard, no profiles, nothing. Went thru system, memory, it said add memory unit. Look there abd it just said 1 attached, unformatted. Think it's corrupted
Don't know what to do! Spent 15 mins on support line to microsoft and got cut off. Should i reformat? Have tried switching on/off etc and removing the HD. I'll lose all game data though won't I (eg cars in PGR3 etc). My gamertag will store achievements and the arcade titles I've downloaded I guess...
Replied to this on the clan site, but it does seem a known problem a few people have had. :( Shame really. At least you can download all your stuff again without paying, but game saves are gone.
Phone MS back and give them some **** for cutting you off last time. No point reformating - if it's gone once it'll just go again.
Their support line is hopeless. It rings then goes to hold music, then rings then goes to hold music ad infinitum for 10 minutes and then cuts you off :(
Can you give them a try tomorrow morning? Evenings are well busy normally :(
Ah, Uridium that sucks man! :(
Have heard of this happening.
If I lost all my cars and saves in PGR3 I'd go nutzoid.
Is there any legal way of backing this stuff up (investing in a memory card I presme is the only way - and you have to choose one location or another.)
And yes, the support line sucks. Still waiting for a call back from two weeks ago!
I've solved the problem, but it would be nice to think they kept their promises!
Well you could copy from HDD to Memory Card every few nights/week/months.
Think I'm gonna do that. Have lost all the coins I've been collecting in Zuma (fellow fans will feel my pain!) and all PGR3 cars. Barely started PDZ and quite happy to play through Call of Duty 2 levels again (what a game!!)
Thought all these rumours of the 360 being dodgy were just spin. Perhaps not!
Lord knows how long MS will take to send a replacement! No live fun for me then! Will just have to go back to Halo 2 on my trusty original xbox!

Hi mate,
Sorry to hear that. That's a few folk have had that problem now.
Have got the Receipt for your HDD in front of me, but i think we are just past the 14 day return policy as of today?!?!?!
If you get no luck with M$, then i can email GamePlay and see what they say... ?
Keep us posted on how you get on.
Are you going to try the Re-Format... ?
Cheers. :)
Might invest in a memory card then!

Has anyone tried a USB key in a 360 yet? You could use them in the original Xbox with an adaptor. As they are so cheap now it would be good if they worked especially as the 360 has standard USB.

My pen drives work but my external 2.5" USB HD doesn't.

had to do this yesterday as they never rang me back after my drive died completely with an E67 error.
Ring up microsoft and tell them you are getting errors with your hard drive. Tell them that you have tried it in someone elses console and had the same problems, and that you've also tried another HDD and it works fine (these are the checks that they would ask you to do)
After all this I managed to get a replacement sorted out
So lets get this right? I could get a cheap USB dongle thing and back up to that?

Can you really back up game saves to a USB device?!
Errr not sure about that as in theory you could put other files on it and transfer them to the 360. I thought Dan meant it worked as in for streaming as he'd said in the past.

You can on the Xbox. When you put the stick in it will say it needs formatting. It will then be formatted in xbox filing system and available as a save location. You can copy saves from HD to usb key in the dash. Thought it might be the same on the 360.
Just thought. It should work if you formatted it on the original xbox first.
You can't really put any other files on it as it can't be read on a PC.
I've got to send my hd AND the 360 back to MS!

What a bummer - you could be without it for the next month by the time they've got around to seeing it along with all the others that have been sent back for various problems. Hope you get sorted sooner rather than later.
