Hi

Just noticed that Rush Hour 2 is much cheaper when bought R3 from Hong Kong (£9.67) rather than R1 (£12.83) or R2 (£13.99).

Never having bought any R3 disks, is there anything different about the R3 version (or R3 disks in general) that I ought to be aware of? I guess that the outer cover won't be in English (I can live with that!), but what about the disk itself? Any missing extras, etc? Any different non-English disk menus?

Thanks for any help.

Dave

Most releases are non-anamorphic and you get little in the way of extras. The transfers aren't always too hot either but that's perpetuated more by them being non-anamorphic (scan lines a plenty).

Apart from that, they're cheap plus you usually get a DTS track which is often absent from the R1/R2 release.

whereabouts did you find the R1 for 12.80/does that include shipping? - seems like a pretty good price

A big budget movie like Rush hour 2 will certainly be a great disc even on R3.
The main feature will more than likely be identicle to the R1, where it will probably fall down however is in the extra features.
I can confirm that it has a DTS5.1 soundtrack, that alone is enough to believe that the R3 edition will be a very strong disc.

It's US$ 18.75 from dvdimport, including postage.

I'm not convinced about the DTS tracks on R3 DVD's. Had Ticker and Replicant and both were very dodgy sounding. Very little activity in the surrounds for action flicks plus the front sounstage sounded echoey. Not impressed!

Nasty larger covers also that don't fit it with R1 and R2's :(

Just to let you know I ordered this from them (along with Moulin Rouge) nearly 3 weeks ago, and was billed the same day. However my online order status shows up as EMPTY! and they have not replied to any of my mails or online messages (in english and french)

OH Dear!

I recently ordered The Sound of Music from them as well (it was a present for a friend - honest :) )

The order initially appeared as blank on the account screen, so I emailed them to confirm. I received an email back within 48 hours, asking for further order details which I gave. The status of the order then changed (5 days ago) to "in post", so we'll see what happens.

The fact that it happened to you as well is mildly disconcerting. Looks like the automated order processing on the web site needs some work ...

There response to emails is very poor, however if you can call them (they'll take your number and call you back if you tell them you're calling from the UK), they respond very quickly and sort things out quickly too.
