View Full Version : (Photoshop) Why does this look so bad?
I have been using ps for years, but never really sat down and learnt the inner workings, this today is driving me insane though!
Ok, there is this image below, and all I have done is drawn a box using the polygon lasoo and gradient filled it, then inversed selection and filled the top half. I've also tried doing a path with the pen tool, but same thing happens.
Why does it look so jagged? The polygon selection is anti-aliased.
How can i make it less jaggy, and generally not-so-minging-looking?:D
cheers:thumbs:

Have you rasterised the shape?
It is probably something to do with 'feathering'. As you have inverted the selection, there may well be a bit of 'no mans land' which occurred due to the feathering. It looks like it is as little as 1px out. Not 100% on that though.
greyjackal, any chance you could go into more detail. I have only rasterized layers before, not sure how to rasterize a shape?edit, doesnt matter, just found it in the help section, will give it a go!
ohood-feathering is set to 0, i tried it with more than 0, but the gap gets bigger!
thanks for your help so far
:( couldn't get it working, but giving up and going home instead :D
Layers...
Your base layer should be beige.
Your second layer should have your gradient section on it.
..And your third layer will be the orange, and should be made so that it overlaps the gradient by a small amount.
The above will sort out the small amounts of beige showing through the 'joins'.
To get less jaggedy lines, you could try creating the image at a much higher resolution, and then resizing once finished. Or feathering 1 or 2 pixels once you've made your selection. With your selection made, press right MB, and select feather - Then input your amount and press ok.
Hope this helps.

cheers DNO, dont know why I didnt think of that, probably trying to think of something mroe complex.
Just did a layer with the background colours on, then did a new layer with the gradient filled stripe on it, think its better.
