View Full Version : Casualties Of War
I've reviewed the R1 DVD of Brian De Palma's Casualties Of War for DVD Times.
You can find the review here (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=Review&id=429&story=2485)
Incidentally, can anyone tell me if this is RCE encoded ? My player doesn't have problems with it
Excellent review as always, Mike. I am curious to know what you thought of Michael J. Fox's performance.
I think Michael J.Fox does about as well as anyone could with the role - he has one or two superb bits, notably the moment when he is trying to decide between deserting the army and deserting Oanh, but otherwise I find the part and performance a bit one-dimensional.
Thanks for the kind words Al :)

doesn't appear to have any RCE issues. I use a Tosh 100E and would normally be affected by RCE discs (certainly happened with Charlies Angels and A Knights Tale) - played no problem...
Just spotted over at DVD Active, there's an extended cut of this coming to DVD in April - details (http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/casualties-of-war.html).
5 minutes isn't that much, I'll stick with what I have.

Studios seem to be wheeling out these extended cuts of late and the directors don't seem to be having any input - which means I'll pass.

I remember reading somewhere that a lot of the much more graphic scenes in this got the chop. Could they be the extra 5 mins?

This actually sounds like an interesting extended cut...

That article said the extras on the dvd would be the same minus the deleted scenes. So is it just the film plus the deleted scenes or is there extra content as well?

All these new extended cuts and re-packagings that have just been announced are surely the studio's attempts to get people to pay for these movies again before the big switch-over to Hi-Def.
