I remember getting the Highlander - 10th Anniversary Directors Cut THX R1 early on in my DVD buying career, and it has without a doubt the worst picture I've ever seen. I projected it onto a 72" screen for my mates to laugh at. It looks like somebody threw buckets of dirt on the print. The R2 version is an antidote in comparison.
The Fists of Bruce Lee, starring Bruce Li. (R1)
My wife bought my this from America, thinking it was a Bruce Lee fan. Although the film isn't that bad, a farily enjoyable Kung Fu romp, it has several problems
The transfer is pretty poor.
There are 10 chapters but they aren't authored as chapter on the disk so you can't chapter skip.
What truely set the disk apart is the Pan and Scan Framming. The bloke who did the framing must have been drunk. In many scenes there isn't anybody on screen at all.

When A Stranger Calls has probably the worst transfer I've seen. The print used is hideous.

Wishbone Ash: Legends of Rock is <i>easily</i> the worst DVD I have ever reviewed, although I'd give a dishonourable mention to <i>Rated X</i>, <i>Shining Through</i> and <i>But I'm a Cheerleader</i> as well. In terms of the most <i>disappointing</i> DVD, though...

I'd let my Laserlight <I>Mr Arkadin</I> take the Pepsi challenge against any of the abovementioned disks. It's only reedeeming factor is that it cost less than 3 quid from Amazon.com (and it was still a rip-off at that price).

The abysmal quality of Home Alone 1 and 2 (R1 or R2) has to be seen to be believed.

It's a new contender for the title, but the recent Life Of Brian R2 with it's fullscreen bare-bonesness has to be a worth a mention.

My old copy of Tetsuo II: Body Hammer will take some beating, as it's the only picture I've seen that makes it impossible to appreiate the film. The print isn't mangled and it's reasonably encoded, but the film is meant to be a colourful, deliberately grainy, high contrast affair. What you get is zero contrast, no colour saturation and massive light blue tinting. It really does look like someone left the film in the scalding sun for a month.

Got to be the bare-bones release of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? over in Region 1. Not even a bloomin trailer!
Else, it could possibly be Enemy of the State - again, great film let down by a frankly crap disc.
