Hi all,

I have a question which I am not sure I am going to explain properly but hopefully you'll get what I mean ....

I hava domain name (and website), say www.mywebsite.com, provided by and registered with my ISP. As I understand it, this website can also receive emails to anything@mywebsite.com and these emails get sent to my ISP registered email address.

Is there anything I can do to get the "website" emails redirected automatically to another email address other than mine without getting Outlook Express to forward it on once I have received it ?

Regards,

Adam Brunt

Depends on the ISP, as it'll have to be set up at that end. Some ISPs have utils to forward email, or it can be forwarded to an alternative email.

If the ISP only allows you to forward to one email address, you could forward it to GMail, which allows several filters, and can pass on to other addresses. The added benefit of this, is that with over 2GB storage, it also provides a handy online archive of all your email.

Thanks (again) for the help Chris.

Plus.net appear to have mailbox re-directs but they don't appear to be working - I'm going to have to give their support team a call.

Do you have any control over the DNS side of things? Technically, you need to add an MX record to the domain (which tells mail servers where to dump the emails). Some control panels (eg, 123Reg (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.123-reg.co.uk/affiliate.cgi^QS^id=AF242120)) allow you to do this through a simple control panel. If everything is 'behind the scenes' (like my setup with Eclipse Internet) you have to go to them with your request.

Just spoken to the ISP support.

They could see I have setup the re-direct but apparently it takes up to 8 hours for the change to make it's way through the DNS servers. And any subsequent change will take the same amount of time to take affect.

Looks like I'll just have to wait ....
